Meet IazY | Artist, Song Writer, & Producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with IazY and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi iazY, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Embracing risk is crucial for escaping the limitations of our comfort zones. Sticking to what feels safe prevents us from advancing to new stages in our lives. I have found that taking risks has allowed me to explore avenues and music genres like Rock or Pop that aren’t necessarily expected of people of my complexion. I chose to follow my passion for music instead of attending college like many of my friends. Without taking risks, our dreams cannot come to fruition, truly.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Since I began my music journey at 14, I’ve often felt confined to a label. Whenever someone asks about my music, I find myself listening to them ask the same three words: ‘R&B or Hip Hop?”. While I appreciate these genres and grew up listening to them, it can be frustrating to be pigeonholed based on appearances. However, I’ve learned that no matter what others say, it’s important to pursue what makes you happy and to stay true to your sound, rather than trying to please others. Embrace your authenticity, and the right audience will be drawn to you, allowing you to be yourself without worry. I’m incredibly proud of my growth, from the quality and evolution of my music, starting with my first single, ‘Seat’ to my newest release, ‘Area Code,’ and I’m excited for everyone to hear what’s coming next!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
One of our first destinations would be Laguna Beach, where we’d chill on the sand, check out tide pools, and watch the sunset at Heisler Park. It’s super relaxing, artsy, and always feels refreshing. For a quieter beach day, we’d go to Crystal Cove, pack a picnic, and just enjoy the clear water and peaceful vibes.
We’d definitely spend a whole day at Disneyland, wearing matching outfits, munching on churros, riding the classics, and staying for the fireworks. It’s nostalgic and brings so much joy, no matter how old you are. Another fun part would be a day trip to Catalina Island. We’d take the ferry, rent bikes or a golf cart, explore the town, and maybe go snorkeling or ziplining. It feels like a mini getaway during our trip.
To balance all the outdoor fun, I’d also take her to The Last Bookstore in downtown L.A. It’s creative, inspiring, and a great place to relax and enjoy the city’s artsy vibe. Every place we’d go would be special and enjoyable, a blend of nature, adventure, and creativity.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a huge shoutout to my mom and dad for their unwavering support of my dreams, both financially and physically, always cheering me on from behind the scenes. A special thanks to my brothers, who are my biggest test subjects for new music. I also want to acknowledge R8dio, IROC, LeKeshia, and all the amazing people who have been part of this journey. Lastly, a big thank you to Netflix for being a source of inspiration for my songwriting and also the reason why my sleep schedule sucks.
