We had the good fortune of connecting with Jacqueline Metcalfe and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jacqueline, what’s the end goal, career-wise?
We started Revitalizing Minds Project to bring the arts and creative/alternative approaches to therapy for those in need. With a mixed background of experience, we each focus on a variety of different areas and are working on building a program to meet many individuals’, families’, couples’, and various other group needs. We specialize in clinical art therapy, which is a treatment modality that has been around for some time. It is a form of psychotherapy involving self-expression through painting, drawing, or modeling – really any kind of art! It’s not about what the art looks like as much as it is about experiencing the process of making art. Our dream was to create a space to give others the possibility to embrace this and conquer their goals as well as their overall wellness. Wellness includes mental health, physical health, nutrition, and being provided with a communal support system. At Revitalizing Minds Project we work with each client to help them build on their strengths to identify and achieve those life goals. The end goal is to have our programs such as Mommy and Me Classes, Wellness Day Retreats, support for First Responders and families, Equine Therapy be successful and touch others’ lives. We are blessed with an incredible location nestled in the beautiful Santa Monica Mountains of Malibu at Saddlerock Ranch and we want to share that with everyone! Saddlerock Ranch is a working farm with several amazing elements. We are not just a traditional form of therapy in an office building. We want to give peace and tranquility along with helping them become better versions of themselves with our business. We are able to provide services outdoors in an organically grown garden, as well as other areas on the ranch with some of the most incredible views overlooking the valleys. We are passionate about bringing art, nature and alternative therapies to assist in the journey of healing and are incredibly blessed to do such a thing in our beautiful space.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We started Revitalizing Minds Project to bring the arts and creative/alternative approaches to therapy for those who want to embrace more wellness into their lives. We want to promote self care and wellness to all. We believe in combing nature. Studies have concluded the exposure to nature contributes to your physical wellbeing by reducing blood pressure, heart rate, muscle tension, and balancing stress hormones. For this reason, our location sets us apart from other therapeutic practices. You have can enlightening and rewarding experiences with the therapist as Revitalizing Minds Projects. Especially now with the closures and social distancing ordinances in place due to the virus, we think being able to focus on your mental health is very important. What a better place to give yourself this time at!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is a fun question to answer! We normally have friends and family visiting this time of year. A trip to Malibu beach is always a must for summer! After packing up the car for a beach trip, we would pick up some sandwiches and snacks at Vintage Grocers and munch by the waves as we soak up the sun. After beach time, some drinks and appetizers at Barefoot Bar. Then back home to get some R&R for night out on the town. Sushi at one of my favorite spots on Ventura Blvd called Ahi Sushi. Their lobster roll is to die for! Then pay a visit to Black Market Liquor Bar for some drinks on their patio. Almost always, I pack up a picnic with some wine, and take friends and family up to my office at Saddlerock Ranch and give them a tour of this beautiful place! I love to take the kiddos on a hike to the Hollywood sign or to spots like LA Zoo and Kidspace Museum with a trip to In-n-Out, of course! There’s so much to do and see in Los Angeles.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shoutout goes to my business partner and colleague, Ashley Ramstead. The two of us met back in 2010 while attending grad school at Loyola Marymount’s Clinical Art Therapy Marriage and Family Therapy program. Over time our friendship grew strong and we hit several milestones together. Not only did we graduate from our masters program together, but we were there for each other on our wedding days, when we first became mothers, and countless of other special occasions as well as many ups and downs. Revitalizing Minds Project has incredible location nestled in the beautiful Santa Monica Mountains of Malibu at Saddlerock Ranch. Saddlerock Ranch was built by Ashley’s father, Ron Semler. First purchased in 1978 after a fire had burned from the valley all the way to the ocean he acquired a plot of land and began to build his legacy. I’m so grateful for our friendship and partnership. I feel lucky that her and her family let us use this space to help our vision come alive.
