Meet James Knox: Philanthropist & CEO

We had the good fortune of connecting with James Knox and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi James, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
First and foremost thanks for taking the time to giving me and other creatives this platform, but the answer honestly is pretty simple. The thougåht process was mainly to create more opportunities to other young creatives out there, you know many times jobs have these crazy qualifications for young people and I wanted to set the tone and be the change. You shouldn’t have to have a Bachelors degree in any specific field IF you have the experience, sometimes you can have that degree and no experience which lands up being more of a hassle. So my initial thought was let me create and build something where I can give you creatives like myself a platform and outlet to showcase their work and introduce them to my network of colleagues.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
You know it’s funny because since a very little kid I always knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur & I think that’s what always set me apart from my peers is because I was always thinking of business ideas and what I wanted to do when I grew up. Lucky for me I had a place I could goto after school everyday and practice those skills, that place is Tomorrow’s Aeronautical Museum. Now ideally the program was built to teach kids how to fly actual planes and helicopters which is really awesome but it’s something that I didn’t fully go through with. I began running their social media pages at around 14/15 and that’s when I realized what type of business I wanted to start which would be in the entertainment industry. Through this program my mentor Robin introduced me to one of his training students at the time Anthony Dittmann who became a really big mentor of mines. Anthony, being the Director of Operations for X Games at the time landed me a job working there at 16 and that’s kind of where everything took off for me.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Haha you know it’s funny my Best friend actually just came to LA last weekend to visit and we took a little helicopter flight over LA courtesy of Celebrity Helicopter (which I recommend everyone to visit for pretty decent priced helicopter tours), but that would be the first thing I’ll always do with my best friend when she visits, then would probably grab food at Flemings because, yes I’m in love with their food & would probably end the night grabbing some drinks by the beach.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Whew! where do I start? You know I have to big up my parents Cassandra Brown and James Knox because without them I wouldn’t exist, they also molded me into the person I am today. My humblness, Eagerness to learn & hustle come from them. A big part of where I am today I also have to credit my big brother Terrell and sister Tierra for always being my support system along with my parents, I could call or goto either one of my siblings at any given time with a change I’m making to my business. or an idea or anything really and they’re going to give it to me raw on what they think and that’s something I really value. I of course have to credit my mentors Robin, Anthony, Ivan, Debra, Trina & Ronnel for staying on me over the years and helping with keeping me on this straight path since a kid, alot of great opportunities have come to me because of these mentors of mines and I’ll forever be grateful for them. Last but not least NONE of this would be possible without my entire team at Round Group Entertainment, this team work ethic is just as crazy as mine it’s like we never sleep so big thank you to Maurice Jones our Co-Founder and Head of Marketing, Shalese Mcneil our Director of Operations, Omar Kirksey our Chief Financial Officer and Demondre Edwards our Head of TV/Film Development.
