We had the good fortune of connecting with Jane U’ren and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jane, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Authenticity! I think the best way to create my best art is to be true to myself and my unique, personal voice.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
In my artistic endeavors, I like to highlight queer joy, and especially queer female joy. For one thing, that’s an authentic representation of who I am and how I experience the world, which allows me to create authentic art, but it also is what I want to see more of in the world, so I create what I want to see more of! I think that while the struggles queer people face are incredibly important to speak about, I find that stories of queer joy and success are most inspiring to me.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in Long Beach, so all of my favorite spots are in and near Long Beach. This would probably be my itinerary to showcase my go to spots:
1. Coffee at Wood Coffee on 10th St. I love their seasonal latte flavors.
2. Picnic on the grass at Colorado Lagoon.
3. Shopping at Out of the Closet on PCH and Plantitas on 4th St.
4. Dinner at #9 Pho on 4th St. My favorite is their rare steak pho.
5. Sunset walk along the Seal Beach Pier. The lights turn on as it gets dark; it’s beautiful!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My partner, Lars! They are my biggest fan and source of encouragement and comfort.
