We had the good fortune of connecting with Jarod Lindsey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jarod, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Expression. I’ve always wanted to express myself creatively and acting became the vehicle for me to exercise that. Throughout my life, I’ve never truly fit in any circles because of being told I was “weird” or “different”. Interestingly enough, acting is a place where both of these things can exist and it usually is awarded with an Oscar or an Emmy. So I realized that I was always having trouble fitting in because I was born to stand out. Never dim your light!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Easy where?! No matter what line of work you’re in it’ll never be easy, but it can definitely get better. What sets me apart is the very thing that I strive to be everyday, and that’s a better me. A better man, a better listener, a better partner, a better person altogether because I know what it’s like to have imposter-syndrome. So when I look at life, I see so many people waste so much time comparing themselves, and emulating others that they forget who they are and what they uniquely bring to the table. I know I do it too sometimes! But I will never EVER be a better Brad Pitt than Brad Pitt or try to out “Rock” Dwayne Johnson even if I played them in a biopic. I constantly remind myself each and everyday that you are enough, king! Never let imposter syndrome set you back because this is your life and you are the star in it!

This year alone in my career, I’ve been extremely blessed to have worked on Law & Order: Organized Crime, Bull and Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin, while showcasing my work and learning from so many exceptional individuals. Speaking on Law & Order: Organized Crime, it took me four auditions until I finally booked on the fourth. One word: CONSISTENCY! All of this was achieved by unapologetically being Jarod Lindsey- not the next Tom Cruise and remaining consistent. My journey is my journey and you better believe I’m staying the course! Take that attitude and combine it with what’s that word? Oh “consistency” and I can almost guarantee you’ll see results.

What and who you embody as a person is quintessential to this industry because the ultimate goal is to push diversity forward. So stop the comparisons! Keep grinding! You’re uniqueness is a whole vibe, and focus on becoming the next YOU and no one else! With this winning mindset, what can I say? As a man with long locs for hair and a bass-baritone voice, I knew that it would be an uphill battle for me to break into this business. Yet instead of living in that perception, I decided to change that narrative and use the very thing that sets me apart and channel it into a strength. This is only the beginning! I’m absolutely loving my growth as an artist and I’m excited to see what’s next!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m a Garden State representin’ Newark, New Jersey native but I’d definitely put Hoboken on the itinerary. It’s exciting and busy enough to give you that Manhattan feel, but still maintains that intimacy and peacefulness that New Jersey has to offer. There’s so many beautiful and iconic views of the Hudson River overlooking the NYC skyline from Pier A Park or Frank Sinatra Park. There’s so much to do there but if you’re up for it, we can always take the train into the city (NYC) to turn up! It really is the best of both worlds. In retrospect, I think the most beautiful part of it all for me anyway, is being able to come back across the bridge after everything to escape the madness. New York can be a jungle, you know. My Tri-State area heads know what I’m talking about.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost, God! I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for Him. I try to remain rooted in my spirituality because life presents itself with so many challenges mentally, physically and financially. So that spiritual connection for me, is imperative in keeping me grounded. I’m also very thankful for my family. Who’ve supported me and believed in me thoroughout this arduous but rewarding journey. And last but not least my reps. Team work makes the dream work!
