We had the good fortune of connecting with Jaydene Oconnor and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jaydene, what inspires you?
I knew in my heart when I was a little girl that food, cooking and all things culinary was my career path. I loved being in the kitchen trying to create new ideas, experimenting with spices and fresh ingredients. There are so many amazing Female Chefs out there that have inspired me but I remember watching Julia Child on Tv I loved her fearless cooking style and attitude I knew this was my calling. Being a chef is more than simply a profession, it’s my passion, I get inspiration, I can be creative and show my artistic side and it makes my soul happy to share my passion for food with others.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have 2 different companies all Female based staff, one is my all pin up girl catering company for larger events like weddings, corporate, special events that I started in 2006, then my business grew for more requests of private chef services and healthy eating for celebrites, athletes, high profile clients so I started Sea Salt Sage LA Private Chef services. I am so proud of where I have come especially over the last 5 years, after my car accident and having both my hips replaced and I couldn’t walk for almost a year I never gave up on what I love! It takes dedication, passion and love for what you do to get through each day and even though some days its hard to walk well I know my soul is made to do what I do so I can make my clients happy. We specialize in fresh, farm to table organic, comfort food, vegan and elegant fare, beautifully plated and tastes even better. We want to give you the best experience from start to finish and it’s all made with love.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love when I have guests come into town I get to go out more often and explore! Some of my favorite places I like to take my guests when they come visit, of course its a little different now with Covid dining but I do love how LA has created some beautiful outdoor seating now which I hope stays forever. The little Door for amazing French cusine Sushi Note for sushi in Sherman Oaks Yamashiro is an LA classic, with views of LA food and amazing cocktails Perch Downtown for cocktails and views Moon Shadows for Brunch with on ocean view on the deck Dan Tana’s in WeHo for some italian and some old school fun Elephante in Santa Monica for the view and the tasty side car El Compadre in Hollywood for their flaming Margarita! Yum Gracias Madre for the Best Vegetarian mexican and their jalapeno margaritas!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to thank all the Strong, Hard Working and Successful Female Chef’s out there in this Male dominated field. Because of Chefs like Julia Child, Nancy Silverton, Dominique Crenn, Ina Garten, Caroline Concha, Jill Davie are just some of Chef’s that have made me who I am today. I want to thank my other half Tonito and all my friends who let me create parties for you to come and test my new recipes and for all your support and love you give me everyday to keep doing what I do.
