Meet Jeannie Baik

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jeannie Baik and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jeannie, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
I became a single mother in 2019.
That single-handedly changed everything in my life as far as goals and what I was working for.
Life was no longer about me, but became about making sure that I provided the best life I could for my son.
I went through a few corporate jobs in the past but I was unable to afford daycare and spend time with my son by working a 9-5.
I made the decision to take a chance and fully dedicate myself to the wedding industry in 2023 and haven’t looked back since.
My son has been my biggest motivation and contribution to my success. Without him I would not have been able to push myself to where I am today.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve been a DJ since 2015.
I started off by attending the Academy Of DJs which provided me a lot of opportunities at the time playing at local clubs in all of California.
There wasn’t many female DJs at the time playing hip hop so I was fortunate and blessed to have gigs most weekends doing what I loved.
Once I had my son, I could no longer do any night club gigs and wasn’t sure how to transition.
I had never worked in the wedding industry professionally but did not want to give up my passion for playing music.
That’s when I was able to connect with Jasper and eventually became part of a team to work weddings on a professional level.
I also was able to network and landed a wedding coordinating position with disney weddings which I still work now’s
It is still very hard as I am mostly away from my son on weekends and work 10-12 hours a day on weekends for weddings, but I truly love what I do which makes it easier to put in the long hours.
I’ve learned that if you truly love something and pursue it, you can achieve it. It will never be easy and there will ALWAYS be ups and downs, but the outcome makes it all worth it.
I’ve made lots of mistakes and have had sleepless nights from working this job, but I am so incredibly thankful at how far it’s gotten me and I truly love being a part of people’s special days and celebrating with them.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
One of my favorite places to spend free time is Irvine Spectrum which is an outdoor mall located in the heart of Irvine , ca.
They offer entertainment, shopping and some great restaurants.
My son and I spend our free time walking the mall to get some fresh air and take in the sights. They offer lots of things during the holidays like Christmas tree lighting, Ice skating during the winter and my son loves the giant ferris wheel they have.
I’d highly recommend also stopping by some of my favorite restaurants like Marugame Udon, which is a udon spot that originated in Hawaii. I’m a big fan of fresh made noodles so if you love noodles, this is one place you can’t miss.
I’m not a huge drinker, but I’d say one of my favorite bars is Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar at downtown disney.
They offer delicious drinks, food and you’re close to disney! What more could you ask for!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to dedicate this shoutout to first and foremost my family. They have been there to help me raise my son and I am forever grateful for their love and support.
My next shoutout is to my team at Bilo Events, specifically Jasper my boss and mentor who took a chance with hiring me and has provided me with opportunities to help me hone my skills and for never losing faith in me.
