We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Escobedo, L.Ac., MAOM and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
The most important lesson my business and career has taught me thus far is to not get in my own way. I had done so when I was first starting out. I wasn’t completely confident in my abilities as a business owner because everything was new and intimidating. From deciding on how I wanted my business to feel and look, down to the tax filing paperwork…It was all new to me, scary even. I was fresh out of school, ready to take on the world with healing but not sure how to go about that. My fear led me to miss some great opportunities. It even led to clouding my vision of how far I wanted to take my business.

My acupuncture school taught me a lot about clinical work and how to treat someone but learning how to run a business and staying consistent with the flow was difficult. It took me going through some tough challenges to realize owning a successful business comes with ebb and flow of the ups and downs. I began to pull up my boot straps and decided I needed to face this fear head on in order to overcome the obstacles of the unknown. I pushed to learn more about what is needed in order to run a thriving business. I sometimes have to remind myself that it is okay to feel that push and pull of intimidation when approaching a new crossroad but continuously learning, rediscovering, and evolving will help to fade the fear. .

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My practice concentrates on utilizing Traditional Chinese Medicine theory along with holistic remedies that allow the body to naturally heal.. We focus on restoring and maintaining the body’s equilibrium through natural remedies that people can make at home or even find in the local grocery store.

I’m mostly proud that we are able to offer not only personal hands-on treatment such as acupuncture and cupping but also offer virtual sessions such as herbal consultations, nutritional guidance sessions, and wellness consultations. This allows those who are not able to make it into the office or prefer to be in the comfort of their own home to still receive some education and insight towards a healthier lifestyle.

Getting to this point with Feather & Leaf Acupuncture, it has been a ride to say the least. Many challenges have presented themselves to the point where doubt crept of the direction the business was taking. However, I managed to persist through the tough moments and build a space that is not only a safe, comfortable, and relaxing environment that allows my patients to heal peacefully, but to be able to educate the community on a wider level than I imagined.

Feather & Leaf Acupuncture focuses on allowing the body to heal in its most natural form. So understanding this, the goal is to make things easier for you, as the patient, but also to heal the issue(s) starting at the root cause and doing so through ancient techniques and remedies using TCM and herbal medicine.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
This would require an entire page…possibly a book.

I have a quite a few people I would love to acknowledge for their love, support, and/or mentorship during my journey. However, I have to dedicate my Shoutout to my first support system and mentor, my parents. They were not only my first cheerleaders but also one of my main reasons for pursuing a career in the medical field. They believed in me, in my abilities, and have supported me throughout journey but they each have experienced their own health challenges. As a child growing up, I witnessed first hand the struggles that most people have to make when feeling ill, have limitations physically, dealing with a chronic illness, and still have to go on with the day. So major kudos and love to Ma & Pop but also to everyone still pushing forward even when presented with challenges.
