We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Hudnall and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process in starting my own bussiness came from me finding out I was pregnant with my daughter Jayla Rose. I believe I was in my 2nd trimester. I thought to myself as I was laying in the bed, rubbing my belly ” I have to leave an empire behind for my child.” I had this feelingg over me that I had to do more then just work as a pre-school teacher while pursing my acting career at the samqe time. I wanted to build my own legacy and leave a mark in this world. Sortly after I was sitting up in the bed and said ” yes God that’s it, MOMZ “R” FUNNY2!” I knew this name would be something special one day. I was going to be a new mother. So I said “well since I am unique let me play with it like this, throwi n a “z” instead of an “s”, “R “will represent Rose for my daughter middle name and funny becauswe you know lol, I’m natural at making people laugh and leaving them with a smile on their face.” As for “2” at the time I just thought it was different to use a numerical digit instead of the word ” too”, but God has a funny way of giving me a confirmation that I have made the right decision because I eventually discovered 2 represents my daughter birthday 02/02.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
MOMZ “R” FUNNY2 is a brand for the families/culture that unties, uplift, spread joy, across the globe in the hopes to inspire people to be unapologetically their true selves using my clothing line, podcast, content, and books as a vessel.

I am most proud of my journey and how far I have come after taking several hiatus and almost giving up on myself/business. All business have their own timeframe for success and I no longer compare my success with other.s What God has for me is already written.

I am excited to continue to reach people around the world that resonate with my brand and grow my company into a global house hold name brand.

I got to where I am business by waking up every day and continue to put energy into myself/business. My family and supporters are my daily motivation.

As an entrepreneur or shall I say “mompreneur” I discover how difficult it can be to find a balance in personal/career life, but with the right support system and self love, one can make it happen. I now make sure I prioritize my schedule and set boundaries in order for me to operate with the many hats I wear. For example I make time to work out and keep my self care on point, spend quality time with my family/friends, and make sure business gets handle before all the fun and games etc.

I want the world to know no matter happens in thier life, if they wake up with a heart beat each day, they have another chance at life to get this their ducks in a row. Becoming a mother at the early of 23 has taught me a lot of life lessons. I had to be responsible for rasing another human on this earth when I barely could take care of myself at the time. It pushed me to hussle harde, set higher goals for myself let along achieve them dispite the many obstacles I faced from homelessness to dealing with relationship/bussiness issues. I found a way to overcome it all, but simply having faith in myself and God. I want anyone who comes across my article to know they can purse anything their heart , by simply BELIEVING in themseleves first.

“SUCCESS IS A MIND SET, ONCE YOU MANIFEST EXACTLY WHAT YOU WANT OUT OF LIFE, YOU WILL THEN PUT ACTION TO SEE YOUR VISION BECOME A REALITY.” ” IT WON’T WORK UNLESS YOU DO.”

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am an Los Angeles native and I am originally from West LA, but I also grew up in South LA. My favorite spots to visit in the west are Rush Street, Cafevida, and Culver City stairs. In South LA Leimert Park Village is my ultimate favorite go to spot to hang out, network and support others. When I visit, I am surrounded with different black owned bussiess and people from differenct cultures/ walks of life. It’s a home away from home. I love seeing my brothers and sisters thriving and pursing thier dreams whether it’s to be artistt to business owner. Since Solefolks clothing store have been in our community for quite some time, I have witness Leimert Park thrive like no other. It’s truly a great feeling to have black founders such as Akil West and others to create a social enterprise to incubate owners like myself to have a space to showcase their creativity and give bussiness owners and opportunity to collaborte and keep the black culture thriving!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to thank God for the alignments he had made throughout my life to help me level up. I also thank God for my heart desires to purse my own business and for covering me as I went through my emotions as a bussiness owner etc. I would like to thank my family and friends that have been supporrtive of me through my journey. I would like to thank all the people that have supported my business from a s/o to a purchase. It means the world to me, that people can relate to my brand. Last but never least, I would like to thank the father of my child ( my man, my boo, my soon to be hubby) for helping me create our beautiful daugther Jayla Rosse T, becaause w/o them two there would be no MOMZ “R” FUNNY2 to begin with.
