We had the good fortune of connecting with Jestin/Devary Brown/White and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jestin/Devary, why did you pursue a creative career?
JB-I perused a creative career because I feel it’s the best way to express myself and also a way for me to feel free. To create something and then share it with the world can yes be very scary, but also its very exciting and exhilarating to me. Dev- In his first school play, “Frog and Toad are Friends” at the age of six, Dev knew that he wanted to pursue a career being expressive in a creative way. He’d often get in trouble in school for being quite talkative, but instead of allowing that to suppress his voice, he made sure to combine his passion for creative arts and communication to embark on the fulfilling journey of co-hosting #SlickTalk Podcast. Creating thought provoking and important content that encourages taboo, yet necessary, conversations is what drives him in every creative endeavor he pursues.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
#Slicktalk Podcast was established in 2018, but the conversations started well before that. Prior to creating a podcast, our conversations were simply group discussions that were had amongst friends at a dining room table. We talked about any and everything – from sex to politics. It was refreshing being able to talk about important topics that were pressing on our hearts and minds. Since creating #SlickTalk Podcast, our goal has continuously been to have these conversations with a broader listenership that will help anyone else going through similar situations, need advice, and, at the very least, to inform anyone that is ignorant to situations we face as Black and Queer men. Today, with our initial vision and goals at the center of what we do, making a positive and provocative impact on the World is what we aim to do. On a personal level, creating an everlasting legacy for our children – through sharing our experiences, life lessons, and opinions – is of the utmost importance in our lives. Getting to this point, six seasons in, was not easy. Countless late nights editing episodes, early mornings researching, and a lot of money invested. But we would not change a thing. It has all been worth it and a part of our #SlickTalk journey. We’re learning that what is worth having in life does not come easy. We have to work hard, connections are both imperative and important, and make sure we remain true ourselves. All while having fun in the process. We are not in this for the fame or fortune, we want to make positive change in the world and make people laugh – all while being as informative as possible. #ThisIsSlickTalk

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One of our favorite spots is West Hollywood. There are plenty of restaurants and bars with outside seating that you can visit – and the drinks are usually nice and strong. Runyon canyon is a nice, scenic hiking area that will give you a sweat. If you’re looking for a good area to take selfie’s, Beverley hills lights is an ideal location. Finally, Santa Monica Beach/Pier is the perfect place to enjoy some fun in the sun. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
#Slicktalk Podcast would not be where we are without the continuous support from our listeners, family, and friends. The ongoing encouragement, motivation and love is what pushed us to keep going when, at times, we wanted to give up. We also have to shoutout all of our fellow Black & LGBTQ+ Podcasters that have come before us that continue to work so hard; ensuring that their voices are amplified, so that ours can be too. We love and appreciate you all. Thank you!
