We had the good fortune of connecting with JiLLi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi JiLLi, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Life gets really busy sometimes… I have gotten better at time management but I am a procrastinator at heart! I have found that waking up early is a great way to balance between working life and taking care of myself. My brain works best in the morning… I make lists, try multitasking when I can, like vocal exercises while folding laundry… But ultimately, having a strong morning routine and prioritizing myself and staying active helps me show up feeling great to work!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Right now I’m focused on developing my artistry and skills as a student in the Vocal Artist Program at Icon Collective. This year I also became a songwriter for “Fearless Soul”, a youtube channel that features inspirational and uplifting content. I couldn’t imagine a better way for me to share my message with people around the world!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’d have to take them to the Hunnington Dog Beach, Universal Studios, shopping on Melrose… hiking through Griffith Park and a walk around the Hollywood Reservoir! There’s so many places to grab vegan food around LA, my favorites are Veggie House in Studio City and NoMoo in West Hollywood!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Routine is medicine but so is spontaneity. I think the best way to find a balance is to bring awareness into your daily life and do the things you enjoy often. Use a planner, stay organized and don’t expect more from yourself than you would from someone you love. Life gets so busy sometimes! I maintain inner peace by prioritizing the things that help me show up as my best self every day. Waking up early, meditating, eating a plant based diet, and running with my dog Brady are a few ways I stay centered. I’ve found that I work most efficiently in the mornings so my daily schedule revolves around what’s best for my creativity! Getting into a flow state and working for 10 hours straight every day would be ideal… but unfortunately that’s not realistic! I try not to push myself to create when I feel resistance. Having interests outside of music is the most effective way for me to stay balanced, avoid writer’s block / burnout and stimulate creativity. These ‘intentional distractions’ look like caring for my garden and house plants, molding sparkly buddha heads to sell on etsy, reading, cleaning my apartment, spending time with Brady + my friends, or watching TikTok / youtube.
