We had the good fortune of connecting with Joanna Bavero and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Joanna, as a parent, what do you feel is the most meaningful thing you’ve done for them?
I have an 18 month old daughter and I think the most important thing I’ve done as a parent is to show her by example that my job and role along with being her mother is to also make room for being an artist, doing what creatively motivates me and speaks to my soul. It is extremely important to me that I teach my daughter self care in the form of doing what makes her feel inspired and full as a whole person in addition to being a parent if she chooses.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have always tried to make art that true and authentic to who I am. Currently I am working on a new series of work that focuses on my journey into motherhood in a raw and truthful way. It is never easy to put yourself out in the world vulnerably, but I have always found that people connect to art when it is something they can relate to on a vulnerable level.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
LA has some of my favorite art galleries. While you could just walk around and find some great galleries on foot, some of my favorite are Thinkspace Gallery, Corey Helford Gallery and Hive Gallery. Culver City has so much vibrancy when it comes to food, art and people watching, so I would recommend my friends walking around and just stopping in to local spots.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
