We had the good fortune of connecting with Joanne Mosconi Piano and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joanne, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The thought process behind my online coaching business was that if I can stay connected to my Los Angeles actors virtually, while I was in NYC working on a show, then my teaching could continue and my students could flourish. I started my Online Acting coaching business- The Performing Arts Coach- in October of 2016- way before the pandemic and so I was ahead of the game when it came to teaching on Zoom.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My acting classes are extremely intense. I am not just a teacher, I am a coach and I get my clients to set clear goals, create steps to reach them and commit to deadlines in making them happen. I put in a lot of thought into my lessons, and I teach each student differently, depending on their needs and how they learn. I do not only have a theatre degree, but I have a master’s in education, and I believe this sets me a part from other acting coaches in the business.

I am most of proud of the success my clients have. Many of my students are in television shows, movies, commercials, Broadway, and have even gone on to produce their own work. I have also worked with many students who applied to some of the best theatre colleges in the country. Most of them get in after training with me.

I got where I was today professionally by never saying NO to an opportunity that I could learn from. I put in a lot of hours in the arts- from producing, directing, technical theater and of course acting. I am experienced and you cannot buy that. So, I got where I am today by rolling up my sleeves and working hard. It was not easy. There were times in the past where money was an issue and in order to do art, I had to work extra jobs.. There were days where I did not sleep, but I overcome these obstacles through a burning motivation to have a successful career in doing what I love.

My brand is one where dreams become a reality because our favorite word is ACTION! When I coach you, your world is one where you live in possibility and take actions to get what you want.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would first take Brooke Burke’s Booty Burn Class in Malibu. It is the perfect way to start off a day in Los Angeles. We would then go to Sunlife Organics for smoothie and drive up the beautiful Pacific Coast Highway and stop at a beautiful beach. Afterwards, we would go for a sunset cocktail at Nobu Malibu and end the day having dinner at the fabulous Via Veneto restaurant in Santa Monica. The next day we would have brunch in Beverly Hills and go shopping on Rodeo!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mother Joan Mosconi deserves recognition in my story. First of all, my mother is an educator and her passion for teaching is unmatched. Everything I learned about teaching came from her. When I first shared with her my idea of opening up my own online Acting Coaching business, she encouraged me to do so. She also inspires me anytime I hit a block with a student and gets me to find new ways of reaching them. She is the most supportive person in my life!
