We had the good fortune of connecting with Joey Mattina and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joey, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Consistency. Throughout my life I have learned that if you stick with something long enough, eventually you will start to reap the rewards. One of my favorite personal development coaches was Jim Rohn, and he used to say “every discipline has a multiple reward.” I’ve taken that to heart and stay disciplined and patient with things I am trying to accomplish, knowing that with enough effort and time, success is inevitable!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I don’t focus on what sets me apart from others. My focus is on constant and never-ending improvement of myself and increasing the value I offer to others. My dad always taught me humility and to focus on myself, because it’s the only thing I have control over. I’ve been fortunate to have incredible role models in my life and I have always been a sponge when it comes to learning from others. I see successful people and model the things that make them successful. The most difficult part about getting where you want to go is being patient enough to enjoy the journey and expecting a positive outcome, no matter how long it takes. Overcoming challenges simply requires a positive attitude, determination, patience, and getting back on the horse no matter how many times you fall off. Life throws challenges your way constantly to see what you’re made of; you can’t let those things get you down for too long. My brand is about positivity, and living a healthy, balanced life without letting what happens to you turn you into a victim. We all decide our reality. Decide what you want and go for it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take a friend on my favorite hikes, with amazing views of the city and ocean. We would visit museums, LACMA and the Getty, and later have fresh-blended juices and paninis at Royalty Juice Bar in Studio City. I would take them to a music event at the Hollywood Bowl or Greek Theatre (or both!) and would find other live music happening around the city. My friend would of course have to come by my office for a full treatment, so they are feeling their best for all of the activities!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shoutout is dedicated first and foremost to my parents. They have always given me the freedom to discover life on my own, without trying to control or dictate my path. I thrive on that freedom, and their supportive attitude through my life has been invaluable. I also want to acknowledge the person that ultimately led me to chiropractic, Kathy Nelson, as she introduced me to the person who would become my mentor in the field of manual medicine – Dennis Colonello. To Dennis and everybody else at Peak Wellness, I am forever grateful for the opportunities you have given me and the knowledge you have imparted upon me.
