We had the good fortune of connecting with John Campbell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi John, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I think the most important factor behind being successful in business or anything in life is work ethic, consistency, zigging when everyone else is zagging.and enjoying what you do. To elaborate… 1. Work Ethic So I’m a workaholic by nature and generally am (in my mind ;)) the hardest working guy in the room. First to start, last to leave with 100% focus. 2. Consistency Persistence will take you there but consistency will keep you there.. The same effort 24/7, 365 both professionally and personally. 3. Not listening to the crowd and not being afraid to go against common opinion. 4. I’m always striving for excellence in everything I do. In real estate I always remind myself to enjoy the journey, it’s not just about the destination. I believe that buying or selling your home is the most personal and important decision you are ever going to make so it’s important that you understand the stresses your clients are going through and celebrate the small wins along the way so you can guide them to a great result which is very rewarding.
What should our readers know about your business?
So I have my own real estate sales team John Campbell Estates within the most progressive brokerage in the USA today, Corcoran Global Living who do things a little differently. Our brokerage slogan / hashtag is Live Who You Are. So we are encouraged to be authentic and being based in the entertainment capital of the world you can imagine there are many creatives within the brokerage and the team.. I had a successful acting career spanning almost 20 years and won various awards for not only acting but producing and writing and appeared in over 40 movies. Real estate and sales can be tough and filled with rejection but coming from an entertainment background I was used to rejection so felt right at home ha ha, So let’s say I was ready for the challenge. So what sets us apart is we bring a little Hollywood to all our listings, we shoot crazy drone videos, 3D walk throughs with world class photography to showcase the homes we represent in the best possible light while telling a story. We also do lots of video marketing including vlogs, social media and have a great understanding of the digital world. So with the current pandemic where many businesses have had to go digital and have had a major learning curve we were already there. We can send a video presentation to a potential buyer anywhere in the USA or the world and they can get a great idea of the house without ever leaving their living room.. They can watch a video and even walk through a house on their phone, computer or even headset for a 3 D representation of the home. All paperwork over the life of an escrow (over 40 docs, around 250 pages) can all be done digitally so buying a house while remaining safe at home has never been simpler. Real estate has been deemed as an essential service and for In-person showings we adhered to strict Covid protocols with masks, gloves, sanitizer and social distancing with limited numbers and private showings only. I feel blessed to be in an industry which is still thriving while so many others are struggling. But I’m proud to say we are incredibly busy and are managing to help all of our clients buy, sell and rent not only safely but successfully during this crazy time in the world.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Ok let’s say it’s before Covid 19 (and hopefully after) I actually have many friends coming in from the UK (where I’m originally from) and clients from all ogver the world so have done this many times. I live in the Mar Vista/Venice area so there are many great spots to eat in Culver City, Mar Vista, Santa Monica, Marina Del Rey and Venice. I have an office in. Bevery Hills and another in Los Feliz so am literally all over the city. So a few highlights in no particular order. Great breakfast spots like The Atmosphere in Mar Vista, Cafe Gratitude in Venice or Cecconis in Beverly Hills. Lunches in Earth Cafe in West Hollywood, Lemonade in Hancock Pk or Jones on Third. Fun dinners and wine in spots like Wally’s in Beverly Hills, Maestros or Crustacean if you want great fine dining and so many other spots if you are a foody in L.A you are spoilt for choice. Days on the beach are always a favorite in Santa Monica, Venice and Malibu and lots of outdoor living from great hiking trails I particularly like the Culver City Steps or Eaton Canyon in Altadena which has a natural waterfall at the end of it. To a game if tennis in the parks and most of these facilities are free. Downtown is like a mini Manhattan with crazy cool clubs and bars and uber cool hotel hangouts. Some of my faves are The Edison and The Standard. Then the Polo lounge in Beverly Hills and Chateau Marmont in West Hollywood are must do’s, If they have kids a trip to the theme parks like Universal Studios and the drive to Disneyland have to be done. I’ve been here now 11 years with my wife and love the place for me it’s the greatest place to live in the world with so much to do I’m barely scratching the surface.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shout out my team members and my great friend and broker Peter Lorimer. Peter is a great leader and leads by example. He always has great creative solutions, has a wealth of experience so can relate to almost any scenario and an awesome way of making everyone within our brokerage (over 200 agents) feel like a V.I.P and that they are being heard and their opinion matters. Lon Levin the elder statesman of the team who keeps the ship stable, he is an incredible calming influence for even out most challenging clients and has spent he’s whole life in Beverly Hills so knows it like the back of his hand. Natcha Morrow, who is just a gift to the world and a joy to be around. Always quick to lend a helping hand, incredibly generous with her time and capable at absolutely everything she does. Lastly Farshad Tehrani, an absolute go getter with tons of energy who relentlessly simply gets the job done. A funny giving character who is reliable, relatable and fun to be around.
