We had the good fortune of connecting with Jon Bullinger and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jon, what role has risk played in your life or career?
We all take risks every day. Should you invest in college, take a new role at work, move out of your hometown, etc. Every choice you make in life is a risk and time you will never get back once a decision is made. At the same time, risks are also an opportunity to learn and grow as a human.
Every day I try pushing myself to stay outside of my comfort zone. Most of the time, the more uncomfortable I feel the more I tend to grow, learn and see life with a different lens. I believe all successes begin with risk-taking.
Before I decided to take the leap and start my own business, I reviewed the following: patterns in my career, happiness in my life, and my freedom to create. I also thought about the risk of looking back when I’m older, wondering if I made the right decision with whichever direction I chose to go.
For me, the thought of looking back on my life 30 years from now and feeling regretful was the biggest factor in deciding to start my own company. Life is short and the world is a big place with a lot to offer. I have been incredibly lucky to have had the chance to interact with some great people and make many friends along the way. I enjoy what I do and I’m excited to continue learning and growing.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I owe a lot of my early success to Intel Corporation as they molded the way I evaluate and tackle projects and challenges, as well as my education and the mentors I have had over the years.
Nothing in life is easy, business is extremely difficult and takes a special type of person that is relentless to keep on moving during the lows and find solutions to confront obstacles.
My brand, Yéyo Tequila and my story is well described out on www.yeyotequila.com and below.
Yéyo was born from a passion for discovery, and the need to create. Traversing the Highlands of Arandas, Jalisco, our founder Jon Bullinger came upon a family run distillery (Destilería El Ranchito) harvesting impeccable blue agave from their red clay soil and knew his journey would begin here.
Hundreds of tequilas were crafted, tested, tasted, and scored. What followed was partnership with the Vivanco Family at NOM 1414 and Master Distiller Sergio Cruz. Together we have committed to rally towards perfection in flavor, and the elusive balance of pepper, sweet, and spice. Yéyo is an intense dedication to trial, refinement, and ultimate drinkability – all in an effort to create tequila, as intended.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My Mom and Dad. They have always been supportive of my decisions to create, grow and learn throughout my life and have been especially supportive in my business decisions. Also, the Vivanco’s for always treating me like family over the years. Matt, my business partner, for helping me navigate the waters of this complex industry. And most importantly, my wife and little Chihuahua – my biggest motivators of them all.
