We had the good fortune of connecting with Joseph Barba and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joseph, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
For a while, I was accustomed to thinking that working all the time at a job you really don’t enjoy was part of normality. After a mental breakdown , I realized how important it is for a person like me to at least balance what you love while being able to pay your bills. Setting yourself up with a reliable schedule to be able to balance the two is crucial so that you have the opportunity to do both. Time management has definitely been a key factor with this.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
When it comes to my music I understand that it’s not for everyone. I talked about a lot of topics that people don’t like to visit whether it be mental health or break up or being alone. I also make a lot of talking about love and being in love, so I really have no boundaries. When it comes to this journey, I have played shows that only had myself, my good friend Aubrey and the sound guy/promoter, to shows that where sold out at the whiskey a go go in Hollywood where I got to perform with the Kottonmouth Kings. The two years I’ve been at this has brought me opportunities and blessings that I seen take others 5 years or more. Dedication and drive has put me here , and it’s up to me to steer the direction that keeps progressing.my motto is support others , perform hard and be a decent human being. Opportunities will continue to fall on your lap. Bg of Local Band Smokeout and Mike Storm have been huge contributors to my success. They always include me in their events and I’m so very grateful.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting the area I live, I would first off say sorry. Haha! I’m just kidding, but the first place that I would take them would be for food at this place called P Dubs. It is like a sports bar with a bowling alley. The food is great and the drinks are reasonably priced. But when it comes to activities that we would be doing on a visit wouldn’t actually be in town. For anything that is exciting, we’d have to drive somewhere such as Bakersfield, or even Los Angeles to find an event or more choices to dine. Or even go up north, where all the trees are go camping and fishing.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Big shoutout to Isaiah (Alaeritus) him and I have been playing music together since middle school where I would carry my guitar around , and he’d always ask me to play. Jumping up to our senior year where him and I made a rock version of our highschools Alma mater. Still today almost everyday are sending music back and forth. I appreciate him not only for being apart of my music journey, but a part of my life. Wouldn’t change anything for the world.
