We had the good fortune of connecting with Josephine Adeoye and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Josephine, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was really contradicting. I was so worried about if people would support what I do. I feel as though my brand is unique from others given that it’s Christian based. However, I felt in my heart that I was called to do what I am doing today which is helping others besides myself while using the word of God: because truly we can’t get through life without God.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
In the beginning of creating this brand, it was not a smooth road at all. Some struggles I faced was mainly about receiving support from those around me. I was so focused on if my friends would share my content or would people buy the stuff I sell. There were times when I wanted to give up because I felt like I didn’t have enough support. However, as time went on I had to realize that what I am doing is not for me, it is for the people that are trying to build and conquer the world through God’s word. I sell merch just for the appealing aspect of my brand, not to make money, but to be able to give back to people from the little money that I happen to make. God brought me here to pour out into the world. Therefore, I am going to leave you all with this; Do what makes you happy. Also, know that seeking approval from others can lead you to rejecting potential opportunities. Always remember that support will come as long as you’re doing what God has called you to do.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Granted I haven’t been many places yet due to my focus in school. However, I would take my best friend out to New York City. I’ve been there before and it’s been an amazing experience. It is a great place to go sight seeing and enjoy the city life. They have a museum called “Museum of Illusions” and I recommend everyone to check it out. As time goes on I do plan on traveling more and to different countries with my best friend right beside me!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My biggest supporter are truly my family and friends. I can’t name them all but I will like to name on specifically, my sister Joycelyn. She’s actually the one that cam up with my brand name “Imetmyself.” Originally it was just “M.E,T” which stands for “Motivation, Encouragement, and Transformation.” So, at the end of the day you can say, “I motivated, encouraged, and transformed myself into becoming a better me.”
