We had the good fortune of connecting with Josh Florhaug and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Josh, why did you pursue a creative career?
I got into this business to make people laugh the world isn’t the most happy place sometimes and if I can give a group of people joy and help them forget their problems for even a short amount of time I feel I did my job.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a comedian from the midwest. I moved to LA 2 years ago so I got almost one good year in this great city before everything shut down. The last year has been hard but I like a lot of comics shifted gears to learn all I could about all other aspects of comedy. During this year of down time I took as many acting and writing classes I could to get at least a decent base of all comedy. The thing i’m most excited for coming up is i’m filming a set for season 3 of the Amazon Prime show Laugh After Dark in Las Vegas on August 7th. Comedy like all entertainment will always have its ups and downs in ones career. In the last 8 years Ive been performing I have had many from driving through extreme blizzards to road gigs to an emergency surgery after one of the biggest gigs of my new career. This job is all about resilience its not for the faint at heart. You have to be willing to roll with it all. This job is 80%. failure but you have to keep pushing until you get to the other side,
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Aside from being a comedian I am a giant foodie so we would have to go to all my favorite palces to eat. Some of my go to favorites would be Amboy Quality Meats for burgers to the beach side sea food shack Malibu Seafood for some lunch and beach hangs. I would bring them to Griffith Park to hike off all we ate then take them to Laugh Factory and The Comedy Store to see the best comedy in the city.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Louie Anderson. I started working with and being mentored by Louie a few years into my career and its been such a blessing to have someone to lean on who has done it all in my chosen field. He is always their for me when I have any questions about this wild path I have chosen because he has seen and done it all on such a high level he is always there to answer questions and guide me in the right direction.
