We had the good fortune of connecting with JoshuaJohn Ivory and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi JoshuaJohn, what do you want people to remember about you?
I want to be remembered for the impact I hopefully will make in my industry as an artist due to my story & upbringing. I want to be known as a strong-willed creative who was able to redefine what it means to be an artist in every sense of the word. Before I wanted to be known for who I’ve worked with but to be honest I think some of the work me & my team have already done for the city of Los Angeles & a few of the communities that make it up speaks in volumes. I want to always be remembered as someone who cared about other people besides himself & who also made opportunities for other people to be able to live doing what they love while also being able to pay their bills at the same time. I also want to be remembered for my creative outlook on life & obstacles, firmly believing that there is ALWAYS a right way to do something fun that also doesn’t leave out, look down on, or seek to include the people who have historically always not been included. Just overall would love to be remembered for being an outstanding creative, exceptional businessman & loving humanitarian by any ethical means <3
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As an Artist I realize my brand & the things I promote become the business I eventually am surrounded by. So as an Artist I only look to work with people, organizations & causes that put people first and have actual initiatives towards helping the people who they also work with as well as the communities they sell things to. I’ve learned that you have to care yourself & not depend on the goodwill of others to care as much as you feel you would in order to see them loved the way you know they deserve to be loved. I’ve gotten to where I am today by not being like my peers & by ALWAYS choosing to go opposite of the popular crowd in almost all business aspects. It definitely is not an easy thing to pull off & I’ve lost countless friends, peers & opportunities for standing up for the right things in addition to speaking out in defense of other creatives that I’ve seen being taken advantage of. I overcame those obstacles only by giving MORE of myself & caring even more than I did when I started lol <3
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Obviously I can take you to Grand Central Market ! it’s a very tourist-y attraction & there’s almost too many things to pick from! But…. If you’re looking for a real LA experience i’d take you over to Margaritas Place ! If ur a creative in LA chances are you’ve eaten here & you also know they help the artist community by accepting EBT lmao i feel like if u haven’t had a burrito from there did you really experience LA??!! Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
HUGE SHOUTOUT TO MY #GOTHIEGANG !!! There are a few notable people i could thank but overall I’d have to give the credit to the supporters, friends & family from all around the world who I’ve officially named, the GOTHIEGANG. I’m Gothie. lollll So often when im attempting to plan or host an event or film or music video I need help! This is where my gang comes in lol , I have literally watched as people who have only seen me through their phone screens send me money to help pay for food drives, send beats from across the globe for me to be able to continue making music consistently & even help me promote songs and events so that I can receive funding for them ! I would be foolish not to acknowledge the help I’ve had & continue to be blessed with on my God given journey <3 Also shoutout my dad & mom obviously lmao <3
