We had the good fortune of connecting with Julie D. Harbour and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Julie D., what are you inspired by?
All things beautiful, colorful, positive and uplifting. That includes stylish clothing, positive affirmations and spirit led guidance. Things that will help me and others to become better versions of ourselves daily.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My creativity comes by way of style/fashion. It began over 6 years ago, beginning with a personal styling business after becoming an empty nester. It was time for me to do me, hahahaha!
My first goal as I began was to be an inspiration to women over the age of 40, who didn’t want to be pigeonholed into that crazy thinking that once you’re a certain age you’re invisible. And if you haven’t noticed, we are here! Bold, and blazing a trail for others to see!
As time progressed, Stylish Paradox GREW into having an IG presence which turned into influencing, paid brand campaigns and connecting with amazing likeminded women who have become real friends and mentors. I’ve had the awesome opportunity to experience many things that I never thought would happen when this journey BEGAN.
Along the way, I’ve had some challenges of course…lack of support; personal relationship conflicts. Many times I thought about quitting, but I’m always reminded while in that mindset that I’m here to inspire others and be a beacon of light. It also helps when feeling this way, that there is always a direct message, email or face to face conversation from someone letting me know how I inspire them. Prayer and faith have guided me along the path.
Recently, I experienced some major health challenges and despite currently being in recovery from having brain surgery and facial paralysis, these trials have pushed me into sharing even more with individuals a new subject…the topic of medical inequity. I became A victim of wrongful healthcare. My test has become my testimony.
So, while my main focus had always been style, inspiration and faith, I’ve thrown in even more…that we are to walk in our purpose despite our challenges in life.
Trust…my style and inspiration are still apparent, but my purpose leads the way.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Leimert Park to see Los Angeles black culture. To experience the music, food, clothing, books… then we would head to Larchmont Village for food and atmosphere. After that, The Broad museum in Downtown Los Angeles for the art experience and then to Beverly Hills for fine dining at Maestro’s Restaurant. Finally, to Venice Beach, Marina Del Rey and Malibu for the boardwalk experience, sun and ocean views.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My walk in this journey has been pushed and supported by my amazing group of friends, who are intelligent, warriors and women of faith.
