We had the good fortune of connecting with Julienne Marié and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Julienne, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I pursued a career in the arts because apart from my family the performing arts are the first thing I ever loved. I fell in love with storytelling and how I could convey emotions with dance and acting and through my career I’ve never regretted that decision.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I began dancing at the age of four and began acting in high school. I went to a performing arts high school in Maryland along with an arts university in Philadephia before moving to Los Angeles in 2021 to pursue acting and dance. I really do think I’m surrounded by such amazing talents being out here so if I had to say what makes me special…hmmm….my East Coast charm? But more seriously I would say it’s my personality. My joy and quirkiness combined with my love of dark comedy and narrative allow for me to take on characters with a unique depth.
It wasn’t easy getting where I was. I mentally had a lot to overcome to have the courage to do what I do. A lot of people from the outside see a career in the arts as a career of fun. And it is fun but it’s also days of being tired after 12-hour shoots, and time management to coordinate learning lines for auditions that are completely different genres and characters and developing the ability to switch in a matter of minutes. It is acting classes, and casting directors workshops, and headshot sessions, and a copious amount of hard work. All of this being done while having a part or full time job to provide the consistency to do all these things. I’ve worked really hard to build up knowledge within the industry because while it is entertainment, what I’ve learned most importantly is that it’s a business and needs to be treated as such.
What the world should know about me is that I am always in the process of creating something and I have a few projects that I am so excited to share when ready. I am blessed every day to be able to work on projects that bring me joy and I am so grateful for my reps for the opportunities I have been exposed to.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live in the Valley so we at starting off at The City Kitchen in Noho for brunch and maybe some mimosas. Then we would probably head off to the Beach. My favorite is El Matador in Malibu. The beach has beautiful coves that really aid in a relaxing time. If we felt like getting a drink by the beach I would take us to the Rosenthal Wine Estate. I went for my birthday this year and they have some of the best wine I have ever tasted. EVERRRRR. Next back to the Valley for some incredible food and rooftop views at Castaway in Burbank. And to end the night a movie at a lovely local theatre in the NoHo Arts District Laemmle NoHo 7. A perfect day!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Above everything I shout out my mother. I’ve met so many artists who have parents who didn’t approve of their career. I had a mother who from day one has always been supportive of me as an artist. She was the first person who ever made me believe that I could reach for the stars, and she’s never stopped singing that tune. Secondly I will shout out my best friends. They know who they are and they are spectacular. I have built up a strong core of people who I trust fully with my art and creative mind. We create together. We celebrate each other and we rise as artists together.
