We had the good fortune of connecting with Justin Moshkevich and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Justin, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
Starting out, I had — without question — a less than healthy habit of overworking. Practically speaking, building a career in LA came along with numerous visa applications, and the perpetual ‘proving’ of myself (by way of building credits/resume) to ultimately get permanent residence and continue a career in the US. The road to a professional career is hard for immigrants without any precedence or connections in the industry.
But operating at this pace wasn’t sustainable both physically and mentally, and the grind leveled out over time. As I approached a certain point in my career, the scale tipped, shifting focus to prioritizing artistically fulfilling projects and enjoying what I do. Maintaining the habit of discipline throughout my career has always led to success for me, and knowing the timing of things, when to shift focus, is key.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The obvious is hard work and perseverance. I’ve learned to develop patience along the way. Not only regarding to the fruits of my work, but also in a personal way. Sometimes one tends to be inflexible and blunt when collaborating in a project while under stress. I believe i’m much better at it now.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in Silverlake and usually hang out in the neighboring areas. I usually try to see if there will be a nice show at the Greek or Hollywood bowl. Maybe go to Topanga and the Getty during the day. Walt Disney Hall, the Broad. I’d probably take my friend out to a special Thai, Korean or Armenian restaurant in an appropiate neighborhood.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Everyone i’ve met through Igloo Music.
