We had the good fortune of connecting with Justus Keaton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Justus, what do you want your legacy to be?
I want to leave behind a legacy that inspires people to pursue absolutely everything that they’re passionate about. Never limit yourself, do everything you want to do. Humans are multifaceted beings, who have many skills and passions. Life is too short to only pursue one, you must strive to be fulfilled in everything you love. Following my passions have elevated my brand, business strategy and uniqueness. There are so many ways my passions have become innovations in my business. For example, as a kid I had a passion for graphic design. As I got older, I shied away from that passion trying to devote myself to one skillset, but the moment I chose to pursue everything I love a world of new opportunities opened up for me. With my graphic design skills I’ve been able to design my own logo, website, and branding material. I’ve been able to transfer those skills into 3D design in the form of wood. And now my company manufactures, rents, and sells life size wooden props for events and companies.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Our business is a delicate and unique blend of creativity and pragmatism. We are creators, visionaries, artists and dreamers who also know how to come down to earth and get things done efficiently. Navigating both is a superpower all successful event planners possess. Here at Sacred Events, we take this super power to another level. Anything we can dream of, we bring to life. We create many of our props and design pieces from scratch then incorporate them into our business.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Monday: I am a true city-girl with a shopping problem! First, I would take them to the Santa Monica 3rd Promenade, so we could stroll up and down the street catching up, shopping, and eating ice cream.

Tuesday: The next place I’d take them is The Grove. We stop off at Barnes and Noble to pick up some classic literature to add to my collection.

Wednesday: The next day we’d go downtown to The Last Bookstore, because tourists love to visit there. Then we’d go to LA Live and catch a bite before heading over to the Regal 16 to watch a movie.

Thursday: I take them to see my university, the BEST school in the city: University of Southern California. Introduce them to BobaTime and Coffee Bean

Friday: Day Trip to San Diego because that’s always a must.

Saturday: We’d take a stroll up and down the boardwalk at Venice Beach.

Sunday: The last day I’d drag them around the flower district buying new event props, because it’s time to get back to work on Monday.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’ve had an amazing support system when it comes to my business. My family as a whole has supported my business and I. My mom, Janaya Keaton, has always encouraged my pursuits and been a great creative advisor for my business. My Nana, Karen Goodson, is a florist who has dedicated so much time and effort into helping me design floral props. Last but not least, my first event planning internship taught me everything I needed to know about running a successful event planning business under the guidance and mentorship of Nicole Harris.
