We had the good fortune of connecting with Kai Leo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kai, how do you think about risk?
Everything about my career is a risk. There are no guarantees in music, but I still bet on myself knowing that all of the hardships and shortcomings in the music game might lead to my ultimate dream. Risk-taking has become an essential part of my life, I don’t want my life to be a reminiscent loop of what could’ve been. So all of the times in the studio when the lyrics I sing are too real and make me break down, or when the intrusive “you might not make it” thoughts come & I feel like quitting, I always remember who I started doing this for in the first place.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart from others in the industry is that I don’t try to be something I’m not. Early in my music career, I tried so hard to present a lifestyle I didn’t fit. From the lyrics of my songs to my appearance trying to fit in. The most difficult thing was staying true to me and reminding myself of a quote from Conor McGregor that I love. We’re not just here to take part, we’re here to take over.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First I would have to take them to the tourist spots like Hollywood & Santa Monica. Then for the nights out show them how the nightlife is in LA. A must is going to easy street burgers somewhere in between. Doing bar hops in Venice, going to the Hollywood clubs, going to the 3rd street promenade.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Somebody who deserves recognition is TMK from 100k studios, he’s been a major help getting my songs right and making sure i’m staying focused. Some of my best songs wouldn’t have happened if he didn’t push me to see where it went. No studio engineer has shown the same care to music music as he did. Shoutout him.
