We had the good fortune of connecting with Kakea b Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kakea b, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
We identified unmet needs within the community. By addressing these needs, I planned to provide valuable solutions and services to improve people’s lives. When thinking about creating a Socially conscious businesses we aimed to create sustainable solutions to ongoing problems. This involves implementing practices that not only address immediate needs but also contribute to long-term, positive change. Rare X was a child of these needs and was created to positively impacts people’s lives and leaves a mark on the community in a powerful way.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think i a have a to think outside the box and come up with innovative ideas. I love exploring new concepts and pushing boundaries, this always leads to fresh and original work. Some people copy other which is apart of the general artistic process, but without the meaning it is just a copy. When a creative uses influence it is important to add a piece of themselves to the work. There were a lot of challenges, one of the biggest ones was getting one on one time with Foster youth; the group i work so hard to connect with. There is a gap between who can work with them and who cannot i just kept my head down and persevered being the best person i could be and eventually broke through. Since then i am able to work with these students very directly this is a big win for me and for Rare x. The story is still being written everyone who is on the way is a part of the history we are creating and i would love to take everyone with me along the way.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I got a few pinned places in my google maps. We are definitely gonna go to Eggslut fire breakfast spot in LA another option is WiiJammin. I really love sports so maybe a Baseball game or baketball game specifically Lakers and only Lakers. I have not been too a football game yet but i am sure that could be fun too. We would go to one of the comedy jams in LA, if you didn’t know LA has tons of small comedy jams all over Noho and LA that have super funny people. OH my burger is a great spot in Gardena with plenty of options for everyone. Some other cool options are the museum of illusions, Walk of fame or visit UCLA’s campus it is truly nice looking.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to deidcate my shoutout to all the Rare supporters, all the Foster youth, the little people who work behind the scenes, everyone who has ever opened a door for me this is for yall!
