We had the good fortune of connecting with kathleen currie and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi kathleen, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
My work life balance has gotten more important to me over the years, and is something I actively work on. When it’s off, I feel it in my body, my energy level, my joy, and I can get burned out pretty quickly. It’s essential to keeping my creativity and heart-centered business style flowing! I think boundaries are so important to this balance. Especially in the pandemic, where previous tools aren’t available (such as taking an inspiring and relaxing vacation to a beautiful place). I have more defined boundaries around my free time, my work time, and what I am willing to take on. I’ve become much better at saying no, and saying yes to the things that actually light my creative fire and fill my cup!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a business owner, and have been self employed since 2009, which i am very proud of. I started Smoke Perfume in 2013. Running this natural perfume business has been my biggest joy and biggest challenge, and I’ve grown tremendously. I also have a client-based practice as a former massage therapist and now as a breathwork teacher and craniosacral therapist. i love the balance between the more logical, business-minded venture of running a retail product business, and the more intuitive, intimate client work.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in New Orleans, and it’s such a beautiful city. i love both City Park and Audubon Park, and the french Quarter is magic.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to shout out my perfume teacher, Mandy Aftel, My shop partners at The Good Shop, my husband who always helps me stay grounded, and is my biggest support! I’m also a huge fan of meditation, and love the Insight Timer app to help me clear out the gunk of the day and switch gears into my personal time.
