We had the good fortune of connecting with Kerrington Muldrow and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kerrington, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
I am a firm believer that there is always room for growth in your expertise and to never remain content in your passion. I make the active choice every day to remain a student to my passion and business endeavors, constantly asking myself how am I able to scale bigger than I currently am with anything that I do. However, I have also learned that it’s critical to understand that with growth can also come failure or challenges. In my eyes, perfection is a myth and failure is inevitable, which is why I make an effort to embrace my struggles. Ultimately, I believe that my resilience and decision to remain a student in my passion has played a major role in my overall success and has allowed me to always see the bigger picture in my goals as an entrepreneur, even when fear and disappointment may arise.
What should our readers know about your business?
Bare Influence Skincare was founded June 4, 2021 with the mission of bringing luxury and naturally sourced skincare into the comfort of your home. Oftentimes, we find that some of the highest quality skincare products are formulated with toxic chemicals that can impose great threats to our skin, that many brands lack to make customers aware of. To this point, I began formulating products that were all natural, yet still produced top notch benefits and results. After months of testing and even creating products for friends and family, I found that making others just as comfortable and happy in their bare skin after using my products felt extremely rewarding. This is where the concept behind my business name, Bare Influence Skincare was created. My brand aims to encourage both men and women to prioritize self care into their daily lives through naturally sourced skincare that makes them not only look, but also feel as lavish as ever. Not only are my products natural, but they also take a clean and opulent approach to branding and packaging that is aesthetically pleasing amongst customers. My sleek packaging aims to enhance the overall Bare Influence experience and to also communicate that you don’t have to sacrifice quality for transparency in your products. In fact, transparency also plays a key role in my business where I enjoy allowing my brand to serve as a learning environment for customers. Through posting skin care tips, pop quizzes, polls and fun facts about natural ingredients used in my products, customers are able to learn and feel more connected as ever to my brand. In addition to this, by knowing what exactly is going into their products, this also increases trust within my brand which has personally felt extremely rewarding!
With this in mind, I must say that this road to starting my business was not always easy, in fact I went through a numerous amount of trial and error months prior to even launching. Sometimes as entrepreneurs we have a million goals and ideas we want to bring to life and when we feel as though we aren’t moving fast enough to meet our vision, it can definitely be overwhelming! This is definitely where trusting my process and understanding that putting out products and branding materials that I am 100% confident in is what’s most important. I make it a promise to myself, my brand, and my customers every day that I will never look to put out anything less than my best! In this light, I noticed that with failure, challenges, struggle, and fear comes growth. Given that my passion and message behind my business is so strong, I never thought to give up, in fact I always looked to understand how I was able to learn and apply struggles to the upcoming success of my brand. Now looking back almost a year later in my business, I still find myself faced with new challenges today, but I choose to embrace them with the idea that something greater in one way or the other, is looking at me from the other side. In this process overall, I will definitely say I learned to remain patient with myself in my business when faced with fear or failures.
As an entrepreneur, what I find that I am most proud of in my process is my resiliency and strive to always learn in my passion. Likewise, I take extreme pride in all of the hard work I have put in running every aspect of my business as a one woman show. The feeling of accomplishment receiving positive feedback from others and individually knowing how much time, effort, and detail I put into my brand genuinely is a rewarding feeling that no amount of struggle or fear can beat. This is what keeps me going as an entrepreneur. I am more than excited to produce more quality products than ever that push my brand’s message to the world that makes an impact in people’s lives!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Born and raised in Los Angeles, I am definitely always down for some great weather and outdoor vibes! Anything from shopping, hitting the beach, grabbing drinks, or even a bottomless brunch with great views, I got you! If you’re looking for a great vibe with food and drinks on a Saturday, I would definitely grab some Mexican food and great drinks from Caló Kitchen + Tequila in El Segundo, they have an amazing aesthetic and fun vibe to their indoor/outdoor restaurant! Next, I would definitely have a nice bottomless brunch at Castaway in Burbank for breathtaking views on a beautiful Sunday! For fun, I absolutely love being outside and near the water. The Santa Monica Beach Pier is great for fun and entertainment where they have carnival games, arcades, rides, food and more while looking over the water! I would also recommend treating yourself to some shopping on 3rd street promenade near the beach!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I will definitely have to give a huge shoutout to my family and friends that are constantly supporting me and my brand. They have definitely been my ultimate support system and backbone in this process from the beginning! From the beginning and still to this day, they would always be sure to provide me with their most authentic feedback, business advice, and support by spreading the word to their network in both their personal and professional lives! Likewise, it’s safe to say that my friends are my ultimate hype squad! They always hype me up on their social media when I announce new products or collections that are coming to my brand! To this point, I would also have to give a huge shout out to one of my best friends, Syan. When I began selling my products through my website, I soon took an interest in expanding my brand awareness by participating in pop up shops. When I began partaking in various pop up markets and even still today, she always made sure that she would be by my side at my table set ups, assisting me with sales, set up, technical difficulties, and anything else I needed at every event no matter the distance or time and for that I couldn’t thank her enough! Ultimately, I couldn’t end this interview without giving my friends and family a huge thank you for constantly supporting me and my brand. I love you guys so much!
