We had the good fortune of connecting with Kimberly Belcher and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kimberly, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
When first starting my career, I read tons of books, listened to countless TED talks, and attended seminars on how to be successful, but the reality is, most of things being taught are unrealistic for the average person. Most people can’t dedicate 20 hours a week to their business because they are exhausted from working two jobs or caring for their family, in my case, both. So I learned to improvise, utilize trail and error, and figure out what tools would work best for me to achieve my career goals. Yes, having a plan is important, but so is taking risks and winging it from time to time. Working hard is key to achieving your goals, but remembering to the a break for self care will help you to avoid burning out and allow you to stay tenacious during the most trying times. So what’s most important lesson that I have learned? There’s no real blueprint to success and you have to tailor the program to fit your lifestyle. Trust me, if you really want to succeed, it’ll happen.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
YFS Lifestyle Group (YFS Life) is a collective of individuals with a passion for helping others achieve their career goals. We specialize in brand marketing, event planning, and public relations services. We measure the success of our company based on the achievement of the client’s goals as well as the overall growth and development of their business. We have been in operation for over five years, an achievement we credit to our willingness to work with individuals who may not have a budget for PR or marketing. There have been many challenges along the way, none more severe than COVID-19. As our client’s businesses shut down during the pandemic, we provided free consulting to help them navigate through COVID and prepare for reopening. We’ve learned that operating with profit in mind limited often limited us, but by putting their business first, we were able to continue in ours. YFS Life operates outside the boundaries traditional PR, we understand that it is no longer enough to be great at our job, we have to be innovative and we enter the post-COVID world, we strive to create the new standard.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would definitely take them to Monday karaoke at Station 1640 in Hollywood. They have live music, great energy, and amazing food. On Tuesday we would stop by We Cupcake in Inglewood for some yummy treats then head to Long Beach for water boating. Wednesday will be a rest day, but not before picking up some gourmet sauces from Sauce Me to make dinner that night. On Thursday we would join the Keep It Run 100 crew for a short run through Inglewood and end our week at The Parlor in Hollywood for a relaxed lounge ambiance.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Ashley Reynolds of Nerdy Black Girl has been the biggest supporter in my career. Her ability to highlight the “win” in every situation definitely contributed to me pushing forward when I experienced challenges.
