We had the good fortune of connecting with Kimberly Carbajal and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kimberly, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started my own business because I envision a future where I am my own boss and can build something meaningful for my family. My motivation comes from the hope that, by the time I have children, I will be able to dedicate myself fully to my business while creating stability and flexibility for my family.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Starting my business was not easy—I started from nothing while juggling college as a student. Through every challenge, I stayed motivated and held onto the belief that one day I would be booked every weekend. I never lost hope. I truly believe my creativity is what sets me apart, I take every setup seriously and freestyle based on the theme. Today my fruit table setups have become one of my most successful and popular offerings. I learned that hard works pay off and patience is key to success.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When friends come to visit me, I love showing them around and supporting local mom-and-pop shops in my area. We always start the morning at Maple Bakery, where fresh conchitas paired with café de olla are a must. For authentic Mexican antojitos and snacks, El Mercadito is always on the list. On weekends, a night market is essential—Imperial Night Market and La Chancla Night Market are two of my favorites for great food and a lively atmosphere. To balance it all out, we usually end with a hike at Elysian Park, which offers beautiful views and a perfect way to experience the city.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mom has been my biggest supporter throughout this journey, constantly encouraging me and believing in my vision. Her support has played a meaningful role in motivating me to pursue my goals and continue building my business.
