We had the good fortune of connecting with Kimberly Michalik and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kimberly, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I’ve been hairstyling since 1989. I entered the scene at an exciting time of spiral waves and voluminous hair. In an ever changing field I’ve specialized in geometric haircuts and coloring to create weight in fine hair, distributing weight in heavy hair and free up curls that lay static. My years of experience has given me the purpose of helping individuals look and feel confident about themselves. After nearly 3 decades in the business I have shifted my focus to provide my clients with solutions to their hair or scalp challenges. This has driven me to further my knowledge of the latest innovations of scalp wellness using safe science hair care products . The past few years I’ve dedicated myself to extensive education, creating a better version of myself, so I can serve those in need of hair loss or scalp issues. I have always had a strong passion for wellness. By keeping the integrity of health in mind, I believe that if one takes care of themselves from the inside first, the outside will radiate with beauty. I absolutely love the new direction my career has taken me. Nothing touches my heart more than when I hear from a client they trust me and my recommendations and that I have changed the way they look and feel about themselves.
What should our readers know about your business?
What sets our salon apart from many others is we take into consideration the integrity starting from root to ends. As a leader in my company I train all my stylists about the importance of scalp health first. By doing this , it helps them to become even better artists by knowing why hair behaves the way it does especially with color. Our stylists are also trained to listen (which is huge !) they learn right out of the gate a proper consultation and how to be empathetic and deliver solutions.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well, this is an easy one for me! Since I’m from the wine country region of California and grew up on a vineyard that eventually became a boutique winery. I would most definitely make their first stop to my family’s previous winery property. Now Criox Estates , I love taking good friends there to show them how the new owners have kept an essence of my family’s culture as well as produce beautiful high Pinot and Zinfandel wines. When I visit I feel like I’m back home but in a more modernized environment. The next place I’d take my guests to visit would be the Westcounty wine region. This area often gets over looked by those looking for a wine experience. Most tourists find Napa , Sonoma and Dry Creek appealing but when you visit west county wineries you feel a comfort of old world home. You will find no pretentious what so ever, just really hard working family owned wineries that have old world family history and values. The reason I gravitate to this area is because of the grape growers and winery owners values towards sustainability for health benefits. My favorite little town is Graton and I love the quaint restaurants they have to offer. Westcounty is full of farm fresh produce and all the restaurants use fresh ingredients without the over inflated tourist rates. Sonoma county has so much to offer it’s hard to name just one place that is my favorite. To be surrounded by Healdsburg , Sebastopol, Sonoma , Calistoga really a person can’t go wrong any where they visit.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a huge shoutout to 2 companies that have helped shape and educate me along my scalp wellness journey. First and foremost thank you to Rene Furterer for asking me to become a brand ambassador with their company. As an ambassador I was able to receive more in depth training of their stabilizing hair loss products and adopted their philosophy that healthy hair grows from a healthy scalp. My second shout out is to NHL (National Hair loss Institute). The owner has created an amazing program that supports hairstylist by offering knowledgeable training sessions to further your education so you can dive deeper into the root of the problem behind hair loss.
