We had the good fortune of connecting with Kissa Starr and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kissa, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Prior to me launching Plants and Teas, I was producing a Comedy Show at Hot and Cool Cafe in Leimert Park. March was our last show due to COVID -19 and I was inspired to do something for the community that would help heal and bring more happiness into the home. Plants always made me feel good and teas are soothing and healing. I was thinking, what can I do that would help the community during these times? I thought of all the things I wanted to provide to my community like Plants, Sea Moss, Sage, Palo Santo, Teas, Eucalyptus, etc….and I wanted to have them all in one place and that’s how Plants and Teas was born. In July, we launched our store in a store concept at Hot and Cool Cafe and was able to provide an array of products to keep our community home and health vibrant and flourishing.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Plants and Teas was born during a pandemic. and centered around healing the community. Our goal is to raise the vibration in your home and improve your overall health. We are thriving because our products are making a difference in people home and in their life. We will continue to strive to be a number brand that people will turn to when they are looking for quality products that will give them results.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to thank my sister- friend Mya Baker from @shootfilmsnotpeople and Tamara Hood @Lovgistics. We met in NY and moved to LA and these sister-friends have been supportive throughout the many endeavors I’ve had in LA by showing up to events and buying products from Plants and Teas. I appreciate them so much and definitely want to thank them both for their support throughout my journey. I also want to thank all of my customers that support my brands, and tell a friend. I also would like to thank my Marketing/ Assistant Producer Malaika English. I am blessed to work with such a talented and powerful young women. And to all of my customers, family and friends that support my brands, your love and support keeps me thriving.
