We had the good fortune of connecting with Kris Greer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kris, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I don’t think I really got too choose this avenue. It’s always been something I’ve know I needed to do. Creating, envisioning and building has been the only way I know how to function. I don’t function in an environment that keeps me from being able to freely create and express when I need to. Music, Fashion, and Film lets me do all of that and share it with the world.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I was born and raised here in Southern California. Growing up in the suburbs, I was exposed to different genres that helped mold the type of artist I am now. From country to hip-hop, classical to rock, I gained a respect for all forms of music. Ive always used music as an opportunity to create something that could possibly change someone else in a positive way. With influences like Gavin DeGraw, Justin Timberlake, and Donell Jones, to 2Pac, Jay-z, Slick Rick, Machine Gun Kelly and many more, it’s helped me create a way of storytelling that makes you feel like you’ve been a part of whatever emotion I’m singing or spittin’ about. Now running my own label, PRODUCT of the PEOPLE MUSIC, I’ve gathered some of the dopest new artists to create a movement that encourages everyone, especially the youth, to follow their dreams. It definitely hasn’t been the easiest path. In 2014, I quit my “cushy” 9-5 job to pursue music full time. I sold everything I had and lived out of my care for almost two years. But in those two years, my music and the label progressed so much. I would drive to Hollywood, random colleges in different cities, malls, you name it; and pass out my mixtapes. The hardest thing was, people wouldn’t take them. They were afraid I would ask for money, but each time I would stop them and tell them that it was totally free. I just asked for it to be passed along. I was able to create a fan base from San Francisco down to San Diego and in between. That would have never been possible in I had not taken a chance on myself.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
One of my favorite places to go is Stout Burger in Hollywood. The have the best burgers and beer and the atmosphere is open and chill. Or World Wide Tacos on MLK Blvd In LA are hands down the best tacos I have ever had in my entire life! Take a few of them down to the Venice Canals and then hit the beach after….honestly thats a perfect day to me haha.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
A lot of credit goes to the people who love and believe in the PRODUCT of the PEOPLE message. The parents, teachers, friends, neighbors, family, strangers, and anyone else trying to send a positive message to our youth about the struggles humanity faces and all we can do to overcome our own daily struggles.
