We had the good fortune of connecting with KVNG DAVID and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi KVNG, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success has been authenticity. I’ve found that when I took my focus from the objective at hand and put that focus on inner self work, my endeavors would finally find traction. The more authentic I’ve challenged myself to become, the clearer my thoughts, vision and confidence has become. I believe if you do the inner work, the things you want in the real world will begin to materialize in a natural and divine order.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I like to classify myself as “an artist who’s medium is rap” versus saying a rapper. I say so because I truly push myself to think outside the lines that already exist within my genre. I would say I’m most proud about my latest album making #10 in the hip hop genre and #64 in all genres of the iTunes Charts. I’m most proud of that moment because it hasn’t been a walk in the park for me as a creative. I’ve had to truly do self work continuously to stay committed to my craft. When you feel you’re creating something magical and it doesn’t just “take off” if can be a challenging mental game for an artist. You can start the self questioning game and rattle your confidence and belief. I’d been through all those leaps and bounds myself. So to push through it and by my third album (they say three times is a charm!) make it to the charts sitting at a higher rank than some of my favorite artists projects including Kanye West & Nas, it was an insane moment for me in universal affirmation. It told me I’m where I’m supposed to be, doing what im supposed to do. Some lessons I’ve learned through the journey are 1. always believe in yourself and when you don’t, quickly get to work changing that reality, your dreams are waiting 2. Never give up, the moment you’re so desperately looking for is just ahead of your doubts and fears and 3. You will go the furthest being you and that will require you to work to figure out and identify who that is, what your gifts are, what your purposes are and what your ‘inner child’ most needs. The more you begin to reflect and exist in the nature of your “inner child” (who you were before all the “life” got in) the more you will find the things you desire and they will find you. What I want people to know about my brand is that it is authentic, it is truth and experience in song form. I want people to know that as an artist my goal is to reach the minds and mentalities of others. Music is my medium to share messages for progress.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Ok so first wed have to go to ponce rooftop, you cant go wrong with that! Next we’d have to check out the Clermont lounge. It’s such a hidden gem in Atlanta. They have the best ambience with these cool private rooms and once you head downstairs you get the shock of a lifetime; There are older strippers there. It’s a whole thing haha. It’s one of those things you don’t get til you’ve done it! We’d def need a karaoke night. Let me be the first to say there isn’t a singer bone in my adult body, but I love the experience of us all coming out our comfort zone and screeching, yes I said screeching, our favorite songs lyrics at the top of our lungs. Next I’d have to throw in some thrill. We all need some thrill in our lives! We’d have to do some indoor skydiving and get that adrenaline rushing (Yes, I am a dare devil.) We’d need to get drinks at Joes on Juniper, it’s festive, the drinks are reasonable and the its the perfect first stop on a Friday night. Also, we’d have to head to Buckhead and hit Lenox mall. It’s an Atlanta staple and who doesn’t love shopping? Of course, we’d have to throw in some visits to LA Fitness to keep that pump going. A real friend doesn’t let a friend miss a week of the gym.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to give a shout out to Ceasar Will. He is the producer of “Triangle Web Series”, which is where I got my acting start. He’s poured into me as a creative and pushed me to be my best self and to not hold back in anything I do creatively. He’s been a supporter of my craft as an artist and has even assisted me in the production of my first music video, “He Bad”. I can truly say, he’s someone who’s remained committed to seeing me succeed over the past 7 years and has played a vital role in helping me with direction. Love you Ceas!
