We had the good fortune of connecting with Kylie Tullipan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kylie, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
DREAM BIG – ROUTINE – DISCONNECT. From a young age, those that were close to me would always say, “You’re off with fairies” and “Stop living in La La Land.” I was a dreamer then and even still, a dreamer now. Because of this, I have a clear vision and mission of what I want to accomplish while having a mind that is open, adaptive to change, and thrives in adversity. In my youth, I was brought up with a daily routine. As I grew into my young adulthood, that routine and schedule became fuller while managing school and various after school activities. These responsibilities helped me cultivate a sense of ownership and confidence and brought me a strong sense of discipline, focus, and drive to my life. The routines and habits that I established eventually turned into daily practices that consisted of journaling (thoughts which included: personal wins – big and small, areas of improvement, observations of my feelings, goals) – daily stillness, reading, and movement separate to my own training. I make appointments with myself to manage my time and ensure all areas of my business and life are addressed with weekly and daily self-care. This is how I find balance in what I do and my approach to how I coach and train my clients and coach among colleagues. Much of what I focus on is based on how I believe I need to show up not just for myself, but everyone else around me: authentic, genuine, balanced, and aware. It’s these characteristics that cultivate meaningful connections from within and resonate through my work. I believe that every successful human has the ability to departmentalize, disconnect, and balance the space between thriving in stress and anxiety. When you accept the need for a ‘no fear’ approach you achieve so much more – everything is attainable. I live by the motto “Fear nothing, fortune favors the brave.” You’re stronger than you think given the daily habits and rituals you choose to live by.

 

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am a performance coach specializing in kettlebell’s and youth. I set you up for the best success possible. I am here to EDUCATE, EMPOWER and CHALLENGE you. How do I do this? I bring the feminine side to strength training, combine breath, primal movement and consciousness. We work MINDSET, SKILL and PERFORMANCE to make you stronger in gym and life. I build our youth for the future and help their parents find their optimal self. Seeing the positive impact I am having on those I coach by not just training the physical and mental aspect but also by sharing my life challenges and lessons, is truly rewarding and something I am proud of. I don’t just walk the talk but I live it fully even on my bad days. The challenges I have experienced with my own health, injuries, moving countries, learning a new way of life, is what has allowed me to be connected in a way that shows vulnerability that most adults aren’t willing to participate with youth between the ages of 12-18.  Sharing these experiences, showing my vulnerability along with, I train you to want me, not need me, I believe sets me apart. As a result the biggest lesson I have learned along the way is trust your gut, intuition, look beyond the textbook, and surround yourself with those that elevate you but don’t compare yourself to others. Live your own story.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
PreCOVID or present day?! … Honestly a week just isn’t enough! Disney because you can’t hit LA and not go to Disney – we all need a little magic. You should sleep under the stars in Joshua Tree, depending on time of year, attend a basketball or ice hockey game, and if time permits, a college football game; the college vibe is very different here from Oz. You can’t come to LA and not hang out at the Venice skate park and soak up all the vibes of the many characters and faces that make LA so unique. Above all, plan a Sunday rooftop hop, filled with lots of dancing, being sure to end at the Waldorf for one of the best 180 degree views over LA.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The biggest credit goes to my parents hands down. Growing up in a family that were business owners and seen as leaders in design for both air conditioning and Pool & Spa heating, you kind of have it running in your blood. My grandparents and mum were a vital part of supporting my sense of exploration and betterment of education while deciding to move to the US. They really helped give me a sense of clarity, drive, confidence and faith. Lastly, my adopted family at Deuce Gym in Venice – in particular Danny Lesslie and Logan Gelbrich. Their story about how Deuce came to be and Logan’s coaches development program truly helped me not only personally but professionally through their efforts and focus on “Holding The Standard”; Community, Mindset and Performance. Without them, I feel that I wouldn’t be where I am today as a leader to the youth and adults I work with every day.
