We had the good fortune of connecting with L.Dre and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi L.Dre, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I’d say the most important factor of my success was changing my mindset. I used to be really lazy when it came to my work. I’d come home from school or work and i’d simple chill and watch Netflix or play games instead of working on music. Then, the next day I would complain about how I didn’t get anything done that night. At some point I realized that I was the problem and I needed to do something about it. Right after I graduated college I decided to give it my all and stop making excuses. I would work on my music every single night no matter what. If i ever doubted myself I would always tell my self “Keep grinding and eventually something will take off” So that’s what I did & it’s been working for me ever since.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a music producer/artist. Producing music was my first love but I feel that just calling myself a music producer is a bit limiting. When I started producing my goal was to make a living selling beats online then produce for some major artists. As I grew, that all kind of changed. After building a fan base on Instagram and Youtube as a producer, I started releasing my instrumentals as songs to be streamed on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music. While doing so I built an even bigger fanbase that spans across all music and social media platforms. This has let me to quit my 9 to 5 and pursue music full time quicker than selling beats online ever could. I’d say what sets me apart fro, others is how I take inspiration from things I love like cartoons and old songs and implement them into my music. I think creates nostalgic vibes that really resonate with people. It has been pretty difficult to get to where I am but honestly, not the hardest. I say that because making music is fun and all the “difficulties” and “challenges” where just lessons and things that I needed go through in order to be who I am today. My main struggles (besides how long it takes to build a solid fanbase) were really just overcoming all the self doubt and obsessing over numbers. There was a time where if a instagram post or a youtube video didn’t get enough views it would really effect me in a negative way. I’ve learned that once you stop worrying about low stats or other peoples negative opinions, it can really change the course of your career.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I really love nature so my favorite places to go are spots like Kenneth Hahn Park, the views in Palos Verdes, Manhattan Beach and Hiking trails in Malibu. I also like go to art museums like The Broad or the many pop up art galleries in Los Angeles.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are actually a few people that deserve some credit for my success. 1. My friend Oliver who I met in college. He was the best producer I’ve ever met & he was a constant source of motivation for me. Not just his success but all the conversations we had helped me realize that I needed to switch my mindset at the time. 2. My girlfriend Nessence. She is always there for me. All the late nights where i’m working hard and feeling frustrated. I can always count on her to help me get through all that. She is also my #1 critique. I value her opinion so much and she is always helping me with my music when I need her advice/opinion. 3. The book “The Secret” My friend Oliver actually put me on to this. In the beginning this book really opened my eyes to the power of the mind and it was one of the main factors that led me o change my mindset for the better.
