We had the good fortune of connecting with LAUREN JONES and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi LAUREN, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Alter New Media is a full-service marketing agency with global reach and a deeper purpose. We’ve dubbed the term “purposeful partnerships,” a practice where we match for-profit corporations with nonprofits for mutual benefit. We ensure that influencers on our board complete at least one nonprofit campaign per year. Partnerships last for a single campaign or an for an ongoing duration. One of our major goals is to help nonprofits get their mission out to the world. Alter New Media assists for-profits with doing good and getting seen. Nonprofit partnerships help brands build rapport, show what they stand for, demonstrate what they care about, help nonprofits with their mission, enact real change, and make great press-angles.
One of our proudest achievements has been working with Collette Divitto, a young entrepreneur who started Collettey’s Cookies and has Down’s Syndrome.
She built her cookie empire after a long struggle with getting employment. Collette employs individuals with different disabilities. She advocates for better outcomes and better job prospects for disabled individuals. Her nonprofit Collettey’s Leadership offers continued learning through mentoring, training, and workshops. Her goal is to create pathways, empower disabled individuals, and help them live their best life. I’m proud to work with entrepreneurs like Collette, who facilitate real change and produce a positive impact. Collette leads by example and delivers her mission.
We hold the firm belief that when people work together to improve the world, it makes a world of difference. At Alter New Media, we love working with businesses, brands, and nonprofits that share the same ideas and goals to facilitate positive world changes. It is imperative to strive to make the world a better place than yesterday.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Alter New Media has unique differentiators, including our purposeful partnerships. We pair nonprofit organizations with for-profits and match influencers with nonprofits having them do one nonprofit campaign per year. I am proud of all of our accomplishments over the last five years. To date, we’ve assisted over 600 brands. What makes me the proudest is helping our customers and clients achieve their goals with publicity and marketing. I champion myself as being a leader rather than being a boss. I got where I am today through patience, hard work, trusting the process, self-reliance, perseverance, tenacity, properly training my team, consistency, and creating processes and protocols aligned with achieving desired outcomes for customers and clients. During these last five years, I’ve learned the importance of patience, setting boundaries, vetting prospective team members, and communication. I wasn’t prepared for all the different egos and personality types I needed to understand thoroughly. Nothing prepared me for difficulties arising from retaining team members and the economic turmoil that can happen on a grand scale due to overarching issues. The world should know that I wasn’t given a silver spoon and bootstrapped the brand working from the ground up.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Their impressive collection includes artifacts from ancient Greece. The Grove and Farmers Market are great places to shop for stylish apparel and consume delicious foods and craft beers on tap. LA has many beaches to enjoy for those lazy days, especially in the warmer months. I’ve enjoyed the El Rey theater, Henry Fonda Theater, the Viper Room, Pantages theater, and the historic Troubadour for concerts and musicals. Finally, LA has great dance clubs, my favorite being The Abbey. This night spot caters to the LGBTQIA+ community and offers strong drinks and incredible live entertainment.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I owe much of my success to the customers and clients that believe in the work that we do for them and see the value in our proprietary approaches. I need to shout out to my co-founder and wife, Nadya Rousseau, who brings knowledge, solutions, and dynamism to Alter New Media, helping to make it what it is today. The Alter New Media team deserves a shout-out for their hard work and dedication.
