We had the good fortune of connecting with Leslie Henry and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Leslie, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
First, you have to be honest with yourself about why you started. What exactly is your why? Is this something that you enjoy doing or are you in it just to make money. Once you answer those questions honestly then you will know whether you should give up. I personally feel like giving up is not an option because you will always run into hard times. If you remember your ‘why’ you will always find it in, you to keep pushing and figure out ways to make it work. Nothing comes easy and you must go hard for you and your brand to get to the next level. However, if you answered those questions and the answer is only money generated then maybe you just must find something that is important to you. If it’s something that you really want, you will get it done no matter what.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
LeslieMoniq is a Luxurious Lip Cosmetic Line. I love Lipstick, Lipgloss and honestly everything about Lips. I feel Like when people see you, they pay attention to your lips. I am also a woman who does not wear makeup so I build my brand around showing women that you can still rock lipstick and create lip combos with gloss with natural glowing skin. Now let me just say this, I am in no way saying that women should not wear makeup. However, I do know that there are women out there who admires the way lipstick looks but they are afraid to try lipstick because most women feel like if you do not wear makeup then you can’t possibly wear lipstick. Overall, my brand is here to make every woman feel beautiful. Building rapport with customers is important to me. When you shop with LeslieMoniq; I always want everyone to have an experience. I want them to feel valued and not just another customer who spent money. I am proud of my success so far. My main goal right now is brand awareness because I want my brand to be a household name. The Product speaks for itself so therefore the money will come. Building a brand is not for the weak. You must constantly promote yourself and sometimes you might not get the turn out that you expect but you must think of it this way. When you watch TV; How many times do you see a Doritos commercial? A lot right. Well, that is how much you have promote your brand. You will definitely have doubts but once you get a “I don’t care” attitude it wont even matter.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
OMG it would be so much that we would do. We would to the Santee Alley because I know how creative they are, and they also love a good deal on certain things. We love to eat so we would be anywhere just to catch a vibe that could be on Melrose, North Hollywood, Burbank, and just pretty much anywhere. Of course, we would go to the beach but not Venice because all of the tourists go there. The Chocolate Factory is a vibe so we would go there to laugh because that’s what we do. To be honest, it is so much that you can do no matter what part you are in, something is always going on.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to Shoutout my partner Chris because he has been with me every step of the way. When I came up with the idea, he immediately asked what I needed help with and he came through. We are a small team. So, he is my photographer, he creates some of my content, and so much more. We have business meetings; we stay up late to figure out ways to make this business grow. He really helps me bring ideas to life and for that I am thankful. This is only the beginning.
