Meet Lily Fassnacht | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lily Fassnacht and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lily, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I think there is more than one important factor behind the success of Love, Lily Photo. Staying true to myself, and personality has kept relationships with clients and has even branched out to clients friends and family. I learned many things in the first couple of years running the business that have shaped me to where I am today. This includes setting boundaries for myself and standing up for what I know is right. Being kind to others has always gone a long way. Working hard and staying in touch with clients has been part of creating my success. My husband told me in the beginning of my career, never stop learning. This is important because of how fast things change in our industry.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Love, Lily Photo has become so much more than the last time I spoke to Shout Out LA. My business has grown and I’ve been able to build more contacts through friends, family and new clients. Focusing in wedding photography gave me the opportunity to meet other creatives, like videographers, florists, beautiful venue spaces and more. Starting off in the wedding business was very interesting. I began by second shooting for other photographers that I met along the way. I went on to photograph friends weddings and built a big enough portfolio to start creating my own wedding packages. It took some time, and these things didn’t come immediately or regularly at first, but I kept going and putting myself out there to continue to learn and make my portfolio bigger. I was able to meet a bunch of amazing photographers who became my mentors. Thank you Kristin, with Blue Skys Studios. I was able to be featured and published in two magazines. I’m excited to capture more gorgeous weddings and meet more amazing wedding couples in the future. Last year was my best year yet and I cannot wait to see how the rest of this years turns out.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Good thing my best friend lives 25 minutes away! I’m lucky to have her so close.
I she lived far away, I would invite her to a night out on a rooftop bar either in Laguna Beach for a sangria or in Hollywood for a cocktail. I would then have a game night with a couple of other friends set up! Life, Clue and a little bit of Mario Party.
The next day, I would take her to my favorite beach in Laguna and find some fun thrift stores to walk through.
After that, we’d probably go visit my mom at her house and talk all night!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The first person that comes to mind is my family. My mother, my father and my grandmother. These people were the root of how I was able to start my photography business and how I was able to buy my first camera. Not only the financial support, but the emotional support. Thank you. I’m so lucky. I would also like to shout out Orange Coast Colleges photo program and all the professors that taught me through the years. They run an amazing course over there. I learned almost everything I use in my career from the classes I attended there.
To all my photographer friends who encouraged me to keep shooting and also helped me with photoshoots. Those truly were the best times for me.
