Meet Lissie Jay | Singer/songwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lissie Jay and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lissie, why did you pursue a creative career?
Well I’ve always loved being on a stage entertaining people, when I was 3 we did a Nativity at school and the school teachers couldn’t get me to stop singing twinkle twinkle little star for the audience. I think it started then and grew from there, really. I would put on little shows in my Grandma’s garden and invite the whole street; and then I went on to do some tv shows, more live performances and I still can’t stop singing lol!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I think every creative person is unique in their own way, and I think that’s what makes them successful. I’ve been very lucky to have performed at some incredible places, from doing a lot of TV shows on the BBC and ITV, I’m really proud of my performances on “The Voice UK” where I got to the final 8 on Rita Ora’s team. I wouldn’t say that it was easy to get to where I am today, but I’ve enjoyed the challenges along the way and it’s definitely made me a stronger person. I’ve learned a lot of lessons, but I think the one that stands out the most is to just be myself and not worry what anybody else thinks.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oo well one of my favourite places in the world is Las Vegas, so it would definitely be there! We would have to go and watch some shows, my favourites were Christina Aguilera, Criss Angel and Absynth. Food wise, we would have to check out the Gordon Ramsay Hell’s Kitchen and the restaurant in the hotel Paris, Mon Ami Gabi. Would have to go to the Grand Canyon, hit some bars on Fremont street and play some slots.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d love to dedicate my shoutout to my parents for supporting me from the start, driving me and flying me to gig up and down the country, always being there when I need them, for letting me be myself and not pushing me into something that wasn’t my passion.
