We had the good fortune of connecting with Liz Levenson & Benn Watson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Liz Levenson, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
We saw a need for change in the international television industry. We were bound by industry norms and saw that there was a potential to shake things up. So we endeavored to create a business that could react to the changes and create content for a US and international audience. In an ever-changing business landscape, we saw a vision that we could make a genuine change and innovate within the industry.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Cactus Tree was founded with a vision for dynamic change and partnership in the television business. We are passionate storytellers with a goal to take concepts from conception to production. One of our founding principles, and something we embark to embrace every day, is that business like this can only happen with the partnership — and friendship — of our friends and business partners. That kind of collaboration is not only what brings us joy every day, but what we feel sets us apart in the industry. The pandemic has obviously affected us and the way that we work day to day and conduct business. We are so grateful for the friendships we’ve made with our industry peers over the years, and that we can continue to work alongside our friends despite it having to be over zoom calls instead of in person.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Even pre-pandemic, we have loved to host out out-of-town guests at our own house. While we love Los Angeles and its abundance of great restaurants, bars, and places to go, we adore hosting friends and family and our home in Sherman Oaks, CA.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Cactus Tree Entertainment owes a debt of gratitude to the late David Lyle. David immigrated to the United States with a wealth of industry knowledge and was always open to passing that on to everybody within the industry. We were fortunate enough to have him mentor us and encourage the building of our vision within the television business.
