Meet London Lang M.S. CCC-SLP | Speech-Language Pathologist

We had the good fortune of connecting with London Lang, M.S., CCC-SLP and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi London, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
Often, people aren’t quite sure what I do when I tell them that I’m a speech-language pathologist. Speech-language pathologists (SLPs) have a very wide scope of practice and work with individuals of all ages. We work on speech production, fluency (stuttering), voice, resonance, cognition, pragmatics (social language), expressive and receptive language, swallowing, augmentative and alternative communication, literacy, and auditory processing. We can be found in schools, skilled nursing facilities, private practices, hospitals, the NICU, home health, and more. Speech-language pathologists assess and treat developmental, genetic, acquired, and progressive neurological disorders. Our day usually involves collaboration, counseling, prevention and wellness, screening, assessment, treatment, and caregiver education.

What should our readers know about your business?
In April 2021, I decided to make the jump to launch my own private practice, Mindful Speech & Wellness. The practice was created with the mission to support clients in becoming mindful about their communication and swallowing to promote overall wellness. Services are provided in client’s homes to encourage functional goal setting. Therapy is individualized and tailored to each client’s unique needs. Starting my own practice has been one of the best business decisions I’ve ever made. I love what I do each day. I feel fulfilled in my practice, and I enjoy the flexibility of creating my own schedule. If I could offer any advice to those who are thinking of starting their own practice, it would be to take that leap of faith. It’s worth it and it’s much easier than you’d think. Making the jump is the hardest part.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There is so much fun to be had in Los Angeles! If you want to pretend you’re in Italy for a day, you’ll need to grab a bite to eat and a glass of wine in Eataly. If you want to treat yourself, grab some sushi at Nobu in Malibu. If you’re feeling romantic, make a bouquet and smell the flowers at the flower district. If you want a day outside, ride a bike down Venice Boardwalk. If you want a fun night out, dance like the stars in Hollywood. If you want to have a family day, check out Universal Studios. Don’t forget to grab In-N-Out and animal-style fries.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My success is fueled by the continuous love and support that I receive from my family and friends. I wouldn’t be where I am today without them.
