We had the good fortune of connecting with Luis Fernando Cordova and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Luis Fernando, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I had been singing and acting since I was a young kid, and my sophemore year of high school things started picking up. I started Booking more projects and sometimes even traveling for performances, so I decided to become a homeschool student for my junior year of high school. With the extra time on my hand I decided to start teaching guitar and voice lessons out of a spar bedroom in my parents house. Fast forward a few years later I got married to my beautiful wife Leslie, so i knew I needed to do something more serious and more stable. This is when I decided to go for it, open up my physical location to teach music lessons in hopes of attaining the American Dream!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I think the reason my businesses have done so great so far is because I am always open to learn, improve, and grow. This is the reason why as of today, I have two locations, having only opened my first location realistically in October of 2020. We have already won number one music schools in the nation 2023, as well as the number one music schools in our area in 2024. Getting here has not been easy. Entrepreneruship can be a lonely world, there’s days where everything feels like it’s going wrong, sometimes you plan and prepare and do things the best you can but you still don’t get the results you want, you have to overcome the challenges by remebering that no matter what industry you are in, there are peaks and valleys. I learned this from my Mentor Marty Fort. You roll with the punches and you understand that if this is a valley, the only place from here is up!

I’ve learned so many lessons along the way. Probably the most impactful one is that running successful company requires a lot of focus and self motivation. I say self-motivation so you know what I am talking about, But it’s not really self-motivation. Sometimes You’re working on something and you’re not motivated but you have to get it done. So more so it’s having the willingness to get stuff done even though your mind and body tells you not to. One of these tasks is marketing and planning on how you can grow and get new customers faster. You would think that this is the number one thing most business owners want to focus on, but it’s actually the last. However, not getting new customers faster is the main reason why small businesses close. But it’s hard work, it can get expensive, and it’s a little confusing. That’s why on top of having my music schools I also own a video on marketing production company named Roi Video Productions where we guide business owners through this treacherous journey of growing and getting more customers!

I would like the world to know that no matter what you’re going through as long as you have your eye on the ball, you’re willing to work hard and you’re organized, you can achieve great success. People don’t achieve their goals because they’re too lazy to get stuff done. Get over your lazines, and cross over to the other side where your dreams come true. Nothing good comes easy.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting the area and I wanted to show him the best time ever the place I would go to is mammoth, but more specifically June Lake, but more specifically camping in my RV a block away from Gull Lake! June lake is a community nestled up in the Eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains, and when you’re up there you are free to disconnect from everything and instead connect with nature. When you are camping in June lake, you are surrounded by incredible lakes such as the one I mentioned above, you’re able to rent boats, fish, take hikes, but then again you’re also in a small town where you have the amenities such as restaurants, a market activities, etc. When I head up to Mammoth Lakes Every 4th of July week, we always make sure we visit convict lake, Devil’s postpile, Willie’s Hot Springs, Mono Lake Tufa, and of course June Lake and Gull Lake. That to me, is the perfect vacation!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I believe the biggest mistake business owners make is not finding mentors. I believe the more mentors you have the better as long as they align with your vision. So I want to take this moment to give a shout out the first and foremost to Shaun Royer, may he rest in peace. Shaun was my first mentor who showed me that if you strive for big things you can make it. He was my first acting and vocal coach, and has been the first acting in vocal coach for a lot of celebrities and stars.

The second shout out I want to give is to Marty Fort and his team at Music Academy success systems. When I first opened my schools Shaun had taught me the art of music, acting, teaching, connecting with others and so forth. But Marty Fort taught me how to operate a business, grow, deal with the pressures, and so much more. To this day, he continues to be my mentor not just in the music school industry, but also in life!
