We had the good fortune of connecting with Luminary Sounds and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Luminary, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?

Working with the right people has been the biggest contributing factor to our success. Luminary Sounds Creator, Junior LLedo, and Co-Creator, Francois The Great, found themselves at a crossroad within the chemistry of the team. It wasn’t until Marissa, “Missy Talks”, fell into our laps and ever since the “Sip Tea or Light It Up” tandem has complimented each other. We recognize the platform we have with KJBU 99Three FM Radio, and we want to support as many Independent Musical Artists and local businesses as possible. In this media business you have to learn quickly how to ignore opinions that discredit your capabilities.

When we allow others to dictate what we’re doing it can create doubt and have us questioning our own vision. At Luminary Sounds we have no room for doubt. Everything we’ve envisioned has come true. Can you imagine being awakened from a beautiful dream? It’s truly an uncomfortable feeling. But now imagine allowing criticism from others to effect the outcome of  your dream. It’s easier said than done to ignore criticism but once you’ve mastered not caring about what others say, you’ll be on your way living the dream you’ve created.

At Luminary Sounds we know our strenghts and work on our weaknesses. Junior LLedo is the point guard. He’s creativity and selflessness are key in putting the team in positions where they excell and win. Francois The Great is the closer. He’s unafarid of asking questions to minimize our mistakes. He makes sure everything is sustainable and leads with patience. Missy Talks has been the ear to our success. Always on top of the latest trends and know’s what’s happening within the community by keeping us relivant within the outside music scene. We have a certain level of confidence and a swagger behind what we do. We’re not going to win the trending awards but what we do for music artist’s is cutting edge. What keeps us motivated comes from within, so regardless of how much work is involved we understand the stakes and that everything is attainable.


Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

Luminary Sounds, established in 2018, is the 1st music media platform broadcasting independent music artists through radio and live stream. We specialize in blending independent artist’s with established artists. We’ve created a rating system called “Sip Tea or Light It Up”. If an artist has a great song we “Light It Up” with our lighters to the mic and put the song into rotation for 30 days. If we “Sip Tea” we explain why it’s not our cup of tea and pass on the record. Every review is done in good taste because we take no pleasure in bashing someone’s creative works. We’ve taken a risk that other radio stations have simply ignored. And we’re building our brand off celebrating and discovering the undiscovered music artist. The most exciting part of every broadcast is the element of surprise. Most of the independent artist’s that we feature have no idea their music is about to be broadcasted live throughout the Central Coast. If we can make a music artist or local business owner smile then we’ve done our job. Everybody wants their flowers so why not to give out their flowers everytime we go live. If we don’t make a listner happy or encourage them to keep going then we’ve wasited air time and didn’t do our job.

It’s definitely not easy. If you’re looking to trend off highlighting music artists that are unknown then ‘you’re in the wrong field of business. We’ve had to overcome those challenges by continuing to believe in our dream of helping the independent artists. Once you understand that it’s a marathon and not a race, the statistical numbers don’t mean much. Yes, we would love to have millions of people listening to our live broadcast but like every process it takes time. We want the world to know that Luminary Sounds, on KJBU 99Three FM, is a cutting edge show that creates memories every time we broadcast live. As cheesy as it sounds, tune in Saturday, 10am – 12pm for your next memory.


Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well, Ventura is booming in it’s independent music scene, Santa Barbara has always been really dreamy, San Francisco is great to explore the historic neighborhoods, Los Angeles epitomizes in seductive imagery with its wide, palm-fringed boulevards, but if a choice is needed to be made we simply can’t make up our minds. We could take them to Mastro’s Steakhouse. It’s a beautiful place to eat and enjoy time with friends and family. As beautiful as California is, it’s the people of California that make this place so special.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
