We had the good fortune of connecting with Madison Calderon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Madison, what inspires you?
I get inspired by other creatives I’m surrounded by but first and foremost I take most of my inspiration from my inner child! It’s the most pure and sincere outlook of the world and I love creating through the eyes of my youth! Kids don’t have shame, they do things because they like it and that’s how I like to approach my art and creative process. Everything I create and bring to life comes from a place of love.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I take a lot of pride in all my pieces being sustainable and one of a kind. Each piece truly has a life of its own! Full of color and attitude! It’s taken almost 2 years for GOOD SPORT to fall into the right fit and I’m so happy about where its landed and where its going. Each day I get more clarity on what the next move is and for that I am grateful. I have a lot of friends to thank who have always supported me and encouraged me to continue forward and I continue to learn as I grow. It hasn’t always been easy, I’ve had ups and downs and plenty of times where I struggled to understand the vision and where I was going next. When I experience creative or emotional blocks I try to force myself to create without a specific intention. I often think about something my design teacher told me which was “your first will never be your best, but you gotta start somewhere,” Sometimes the hardest part is just getting going. Regardless I always get out what I put in and that’s been the most useful lesson I’ve learned along the way. This year I have to opportunity to do GOOD SPORT full time and I know if I work hard the only thing that will hold me back is fear! GOOD SPORT is about trusting your instincts and following through and being sincere, because I believe that’s where true success lies. Fear has no place in the GOOD SPORT world. It isn’t just a garment its a mentality! Kid-core! A true fountain of youth, an abundance of love and free spirits. Living everyday to satisfy and play with out inner child!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Los Angeles is gifted with amazing fleas! Full of amazing artists and curated vintage and fun finds! I would definitely be starting there! Los Feliz flea, rose bowl flea, Melrose trading post! When music kicks back up again I’d be taking them to some DIY show at The Smell or maybe the Regent if were looking for some amazing acoustics. As far as food goes I’m a HUGE fan of Yuko Kitchen! They have amazing Japanese cuisine and you can grab a plant while you are there! One of my other favorite sports to visit is STJLA, a cyber cafe in Hollywood that curates and sells a bunch of local artist and always has an art exhibit up! Ive also heard they do open mic comedy on wednesday as well as random pop ups all the time! The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to give a shout out to Michelle of Foster the Millions ig: @fosterthemillions_ she is a huge part of the local art community and has always given me a platform for me to grow with my art as well as many other amazing creators that I’ve had the privilege of connecting with. Foster the millions has a huge part in my success and growth!
