We had the good fortune of connecting with Madison Taylor and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Madison, what inspires you?
I find inspiration from unique individuals who are unafraid to express themselves; not only through their creative mediums, but in their everyday life as well. Sometimes I’ll just stop and stare at people in the street who are dressed extra sharp or boldly. Its not out of rudeness most times, I’m really just admiring their style and making mental notes so I can bring part of that back with me. Unique architecture and nature really inspire me as well. Buildings that look like they don’t belong there, brightly colored plants, bold patterned animals… All of these things also really inspire my art and the way i live my day-to-day life. As far as personal style inspiration goes, anyone who knows me knows all about my leopard print OBSESSION, take that mixed with the 90s, 70s, 80s punk, and 2000s grunge and that pretty much describes my entire wardrobe.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started off modeling when I was 16 and took my senior photos. I enjoyed being behind the camera so much, I had to do more ! It certainly wasn’t the easiest thing, paid modeling opportunities are far and few inbetween and it’s hard to get started when you’re a broke kid fresh out of highschool. Modeling is certainty not a “get rich quick” scheme. I had to invest a lot of time, money, and had my fair share of fuck ups and learning opportunities all along the way. Thank goodness I quickly gained trustworthy friends and connections in the industry that taught me all the ins and outs of this tricky business. I definitely am not done learning either! I have so much more i want to do. I think what makes my modeling aesthetic unique is my versatility, distinct look, and the consistency in my brand. I’ve been doing this for 7 years now, and definitely know exactly what I want my public image to be. I don’t take any shoots or brand deals that don’t align with my morals and asthetic. Don’t be afraid to say “no” to things! Better opportunities will come your way, trust me!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The bay area has so much beauty, I don’t think a week is damn near long enough! San Francisco has the most beautiful vintage architecture and there are some beautiful nature surprises all tucked in there too! You just have to know where to look. Holy shit and the FOOD here?????! Anything you’re craving is a block walk away and is mouthwateringly Delicious. Travel up north a bit and you’re in the red woods! When you’re in the middle of the woods surrounded by the biggest trees you’ve ever seen in your life, you can’t help but sit back and just feel so small. It also makes your problems seem small as well. 10/10 recommend. California is filled with beauty. Any type of scenery you want is just a day trip away. Living here, you can’t help but be inspired!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people in my life who deserve recognition, but right off the top of my head I would like to give a shout out to Joseph Maddon @Joseph_Maddon and his wife Nat who owns @Solsticeintimates. Joey is the best photographer, and Nat makes the cutest clothes that fit my styls and esthetic to a T. They gave me a chance to work with them when I didn’t have a large presence online, and because of them I have seen insane growth in my page, and have been presented with more amazing modeling opportunities! I also want to shout out Ainsley at @Sticks_and_Stones_agency for featuring me several times in their magazine which has also led to incredible opportunities. My agency @Starsmanagment has put in so much work for me, everyday they show me that they truly beleive in me, and have stuck by me through every hairstyle change, every new tattoo, and still continue to send me castings and find work for me. It means alot to have an agency who supports and puts in real work to help me reach my full potential. My dear friends Kaelyn @kaelyncobra and Juniper @junipers_craft_bound also support my art by regularly making the cutest custom clothing and accesories for me that make my shoots and style game even more high level. I also want to shout out all of my friends and family that truly support my art by commenting, sharing, asking me questions, picking me up from places and dropping me off, housing me when I’m in their town, and of course collaborating with me to create these beautiful images. I wish I could name each one of you one by one!
