We had the good fortune of connecting with Mamie Pack and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mamie, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
Creating stationery takes a lot of thought.
When I create a new product, I think about the problem the product will solve, who would use it, and how easy is it for someone to use.
It’s more than putting a pretty graphic on a notebook.
I focus on guided journals.
Our guided journals focus on:
Celebrating Me: A guided journal to celebrate your birthday
Choosing Us: A guided journal to celebrate your anninversary
Prioritizing ME: A guided self-care journal for educators
Prioritizing Me: A guide self-care journal
Celebrating you: A guided journal to celebrate your mother
Do Less, Live More: A gratitude journal
For each journal I thought out the person who loves to journal and the person who thinks journaling is not for them I think of the paper quality, the age group that will use the products, the practicality of the product, and where does it fit. Will people buy it AND use it.
Our stationery is designed to help women prioritize their well-being. It’s important that we test that the guided journals can help them do that.
So a lot of testing, research, and focus goes into each design.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Hi. I am Dr. Mamie (pronounced May-Me) L. Pack. I am a military wife, momma, educator, and founder of Mamie L. Pack Media.
As a young girl, I was drawn to beauty of books, storytelling, and writing. There is power in telling your story in your own words. My love of words grew in include lists, planners, and all things productivity. Even as a child, I started making custom journals. With my love of storytelling, it’s no surprise that I would start my professional career as an English teacher. It was as a teacher I would focus on helping students with goal setting, productivity techniques, and self-care. I created journals to assist her students with building healthy habits.
I continued sharing my love of organization, planning, and storytelling by creating products to help other military wives and stay-at-home moms. I started writing to help women know they are not alone. With over 20 years experience leading, teaching, and mentoring, I uses my professional knowledge and personal experience to disrupt the narrative telling women we must do more and be more in order to have worth or a meaningful life.
As a Black woman owned business, I launched Mamie L. Pack Media in 2018
with the idea that women could thrive in all seasons of life. I wanted to break the narrative that women need to do more and more in order to have worth. Our stationery is designed with purpose to help women create healthy habits so that they can thrive at any age and stage of life.
We believe that you can live a full life by doing less.
We believe in doing the best we can, where we are, and with what we have knowing that is enough.
We accept that life changes and it’s okay to adapt to what we need.
We know that a healthy community is a necessary part of a thriving life.
We are open to new possibilities.
We choose to uproot any unhealthy habits, ideas, and beliefs that prevent us from becoming our better selves.
We create stationery with purpose designed to help women prioritize their well-being. Our stationery equips women to live a life of wholeness in five areas of wellness: mental, emotional, intellectual, physical and spiritual growth. From gratitude journals to our Black Excellence planner, we have a variety of products that can fit your lifestyle. By building healthy habits through personal reflection, our products help women of all ages and stages of life.
I want women to know they are never alone and that are others who want to see them thrive.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Check out Sip & Sonder.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am truly grateful for Nikki Porcher, founder of Buy From A Black Woman. Being a part of the Buy From a Black Woman community has impacted me as a person and as a business owner in so many ways. Nikki continuously champions Black women in every space she goes. She takes Black women with her. As a part of the community, my business has thrived. I have been able to participate in the Inspire Tour presented by H& M and the Holiday Market presented by H&M. In a time when companies have pulled their funding for Black owned business, Buy From A Black Woman continues to provide opportunities for financial growth. I have gained a community where other Black women want to see you win, cheer you on, support you, walk with you, and help you. I cannot say thank you enough for everything Nikki does!
