We had the good fortune of connecting with Manman Li and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Manman, why did you pursue a creative career?
I chose a creative career because art has always been an essential part of my life. From a young age, drawing was my way of expressing myself, especially when words couldn’t fully capture my thoughts. My parents not only supported my passion but also encouraged me to create freely—even when my canvas was the walls of our home. Instead of stopping me, they nurtured my creativity and allowed me to explore and grow.

As I grew older, my love for art only deepened. I started experimenting with watercolor and clay at the age of four, took formal sketching lessons at seven, and remained dedicated to art while other interests came and went. In college, I immersed myself in new media art and design, which helped me refine my skills and opened doors to various competitions. My work received international recognition, earning prestigious awards such as the IDA, Muse Creative Award, America Good Design Award, and UX Design Award. I also co-founded a creative studio with like-minded peers, an experience that became a turning point in my career. It was then that I realized my passion wasn’t just a hobby—it could be a meaningful and fulfilling profession.

Today, while I work as a UI/UX designer, art—especially digital art—continues to be a driving force in my life. It’s more than just a job; it’s a career that fuels my creativity and inspires me every day. I feel incredibly fortunate to have turned my passion into a profession, bringing ideas to life and evoking emotions through my work.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is deeply rooted in storytelling, emotion, and interactive experiences. As both a UI/UX designer and digital artist, I merge technology with creativity to create visually compelling and user-centric designs. What sets my work apart is my ability to blend artistic expression with functional design, crafting experiences that are not only aesthetically engaging but also intuitive and impactful.

One of the achievements I’m most proud of is my work on digital and interactive art projects, which have earned international recognition, including awards such as the IDA, Muse Creative Award, America Good Design Award, and UX Design Award. Seeing my work resonate with people and create meaningful interactions is what excites me the most.

Getting to where I am today was far from easy. The creative field is highly competitive, and there were times I faced self-doubt, creative blocks, and industry challenges. However, I’ve learned that perseverance, adaptability, and continuous learning are key. I overcame obstacles by staying open to feedback, pushing my creative boundaries, and embracing new technologies.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that art and design are not just about aesthetics—they are about solving problems, evoking emotions, and shaping experiences. I want the world to know that my work is driven by passion and a commitment to innovation. Whether it’s through digital art, UI/UX design, or branding, my goal is to create work that inspires, connects, and leaves a lasting impact.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting, I’d want to give them an unforgettable experience, so I’d definitely take them to Big Bear Lake—my absolute favorite getaway, no matter the season!

Winter Wonderland Adventure
During winter, Big Bear transforms into a snow-covered paradise. We’d start the trip by hitting the slopes at Bear Mountain or Snow Summit, which offer amazing skiing and snowboarding conditions. The trails range from beginner-friendly to advanced, so no matter their skill level, there’s something for everyone. The best part? It’s not overly crowded like some other resorts, so we’d have more space to enjoy the fresh powder!

For a more laid-back adventure, we’d go snow tubing at Big Bear Snow Play, where we could slide down icy slopes in giant inflatable tubes. And for a unique thrill, we’d ride the Alpine Slide, an exciting bobsled-style coaster that winds through the snowy forest—it’s like a roller coaster in nature!

In the evenings, we’d warm up with a hearty meal at The Pines Lakefront or Captain’s Anchorage, both offering cozy vibes and delicious mountain cuisine. Then, we’d grab hot chocolate and stargaze by the lake—on clear nights, the sky is absolutely magical.

Summer Escape
If we’re visiting in the summer, Big Bear has an entirely different charm. We’d kick off the day by renting a kayak or paddleboard to explore the crystal-clear waters of the lake. If we’re feeling more adventurous, we’d rent a pontoon boat, pack some snacks, and just cruise around, soaking in the mountain views.

For hiking lovers, we’d trek up Castle Rock Trail, a short but scenic hike that leads to panoramic views of the lake and surrounding mountains—perfect for that Instagram-worthy shot. And if we’re up for a bigger adventure, Pine Knot Trail offers a rewarding 6-mile hike through gorgeous forest scenery.

One of the most unique summer activities at Big Bear is the Mine Shaft Coaster, an exhilarating alpine roller coaster that twists and turns down the mountainside. It’s an absolute must-try!

Food & Fun 🍔🍹
Of course, no trip is complete without amazing food! We’d grab breakfast at Grizzly Manor Café, a local favorite known for its huge pancakes and homestyle comfort food. For lunch, we’d stop by Teddy Bear Restaurant for some delicious burgers or homemade pies. And for dinner, we’d go all out with a lakeside sunset meal at Evergreen Restaurant, which has both great food and incredible views.

At night, we’d check out Big Bear Lake Brewing Company for craft beer and good vibes or cozy up at one of the local bars with a fire pit. If we’re feeling up for a more chill night, we’d rent a lakeside cabin, roast marshmallows over a bonfire, and just enjoy the peaceful mountain atmosphere.

Why Big Bear?
Big Bear is the perfect mix of adventure, relaxation, and stunning nature. Whether we’re skiing in the winter or hiking and boating in the summer, there’s always something exciting to do. It’s one of those places where you can disconnect from the city, breathe in fresh mountain air, and just enjoy life—which is exactly what I’d want my best friend to experience!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Of course! I wouldn’t be where I am today without the support and encouragement of so many people. First and foremost, I want to thank my family for their unwavering love and belief in me. They have always supported my dreams without judgment, giving me the confidence to pursue my passion fearlessly.

I also want to express my gratitude to the professors I had at Pratt Institute. They not only taught me the technical skills of art and design but also helped me see, feel, and express creativity in a deeper, more meaningful way.

Their guidance shaped my artistic vision and gave me the tools to bring my ideas to life. I’m incredibly grateful for everyone who has played a role in my journey.
