Meet Marco Chinchilla | artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Marco Chinchilla and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marco, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I’ve always been drawn to visual expression. It’s something that I like to do. I know most people don’t think of art as competitive but to me it is. It’s a competition to set yourself apart from others. That’s why I admire and respect people who spend their life working on new forms of expression. It’s what I’m working towards.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Most of my art is personal and has a context and a story. I remember back in 2017-2019 I was going through some turbulent thoughts. I felt completely lost and out of place. Part of the reason was because of the values that I decided to adopt through the music I was listening to. It was during this time that I made a short animation called “bilstn’s inferno,” it is a story that parallel’s the first book of Dante’s Divine Comedy. At that time I didn’t really have a moral compass, so this story is about the recognition of my wrong doings. Eventually, I managed to get out of that whole situation, thank God. So now I feel so much joy and gratitude for conquering what felt like one of the darkest moments in my life, and share that with others who are going through similar things.
I learned a beautiful saying from all this. that “those who are happy learn from the mistakes of others, and those who are wise learn from their own.” & I want others to be happy.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would definitely take them to some of the museums here in LA. The Getty is one of my favorites as well as The Broad. If not, then I would probably hit PCH and check out the surfers along the coast. There’s some sick spots with some sick waves

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Everyone in my life has played a special role in my success. My parents have been a constant support throughout my life, as well as the rest of my family.
Also, Dante’s divine comedy played an important role in my life. It’s amazing what art can do to you and this beautiful series of poems changed my life.
