We had the good fortune of connecting with Marv Neal and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marv, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I’ve always known it would be in the arts some kinda way I’ve always danced I’ve always been silly I’ve always dressed nice it was the 80s and 90s so the black culture in music and film was really happening. From drawing and loving fashion I knew it would be something creative. I won class talented in highschool art stuff has always been my life so the career chose me so to speak.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My Art is clothing from retail ( I can sell ) Design wardrobe styling and knowing how to curate a full look like a creative director. what sets me apart is that I’m from Detroit and have worked with some of the best in my city and around the country also been internationally published in some of the best magazines all from Detroit. I got where I am by working hard and being honest and sharing the love all across the board. No, the fight still is not easy it will always be challenging cause I’m, not in NYC or LA so if those people want me they have to fly me in 🙂 the lesson I learn is that you have to be yourself in any situation and take what you have to even in those major cities . What I want to world to know is that I’m great at what I do I know fashion menswear or womenswear and I will run a major fashion house one day as a creative director called Jeanous denim .

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Detroit is so rich in culture and food you have all the roots of families from the south so it’s hard to narrow down and with covid looming it is kinda hard. Floods is a Bar & Grille great food and music Have to hit. Chef J cotton for his famous egg rolls Check out The African American Museum and The Ndambi Center for a concert leave and grab some food from Sweet Potatoe Sensations see if Ettafly will open up for us late and you have to hit Detroit VS Everybody for a tee or sweatshirt to rock while you back in your know city. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to s/o every Boutique and Designer that has ever let me pull clothing from them or their store also those that can bring my design or aesthetic to life! As a wardrobe stylist you always cant pull from Balmain so how will you improvise for the same kinda look or feel ? so Big ups to those people some don’t like fast fashion I don’t mind it as long as it’s good and made well.
